Expose Turkey for cruel treatment of refugees

Crossing the line
by Hassan
21-Jan-2008

Dear sir,

I'm Hasan, an ex member of People's Mojahedin Of Iran (PMOI). I had a horrible ordeal and want you to publish our story. I sent this story to UN High Commission for Refugees and some American senators and some media outlets. This story has told on some Iranian radios and channels. Because of some security reasons I don't mention my family.

I'm an Iranian educated professional that fought near 25 years for freedom and sacrifice all my things – my wife, my son, my youth – in fight with cruel Iranian regime and now in age 50 seeking normal life because more than one year ago separated from PMOI because they changed from a political group to a sect and now living as a displaced refugee.

On January 11th, I went to Turkey and crossed the boarder. Unfortunately I was arrested by the army and spent one night in detention. After that they brought us to court, without the presence of any lawyers, they secretly made a decision and didn't tell us. They then delivered us to security forces and security forces took us to a dark cell as detainees for one week. After, one week, they lied to us by saying "you are going to Ankara to be handed to UNHCR authorities", but instead, they brought us to Customs in order to give us to Iraqi authorities. But, Iraqi authorities didn't accept us because we were Iranian nationals .

Then, the Turkish security forces made a cruel decision to throw us in a freezing river to get ride of us. We said we would be killed in the freezing cold, and tried to appeal to their humanitarian feelings but, they told us if we did not cross the river, we would be shot. They fired round of shots in the air to terrorize us, and then pushed us into the horrible freezing water. It was the most terrifying moment of our lives. Our group which ranged in age from 43 to 53 years old, struggled for their lives. One we nearly sank but kept trying to swim to stay alive.

After crossing the river all our clothing were completely frozen. After short time two helicopters flew over, and shot at us twice. I am certain they had decided to kill us to in order to claim that our death was an accident because as some refugees we would have been killed during crossing the river in freezing winter in this time of year.

The evidence proves this cruel decision because they knew that Iraqi government would reject us and because the previous week Iraqi authorities rejected another group like us from Turkish authorities. That group was detained in the same jail with us but, their case revealed and their families followed their case with their lawyers and formal UNHCR authorities and Turkish government could not get rid of them. During our detention we asked them to let us call our families, and they said today, tomorrow, this afternoon … you can call your family but, never allowed us to call. When they forced us to cross the frozen river they handed over our documents and our cell phones but they removed the sim-cards of all cell phones and nobody could call for help.

After crossing river, we walked seven hours with frozen feet's and frozen cloths. The only the love of telling our horrific story helped us to fight the cold by staying focused and alive. After three days we suffered from freezing and could not walk without feeling excruciating pain in our feet. We have flashbak and nightmares of the ordeal we went through.

We were 8 innocent refugees that tried to reach the UNHCR offices in Ankara, in order to escape from Iraqi hell because we were not safe in Iraq. Once detained in Iraqi check point, they stole our possessions, and jailed us without any reason because they hated us and said "you the PMOI ex members have killed Kurdish people, and must go away from Iraq territory".

In Erbil – capital of Kurdish local government – they only allow us to stay in city for ten days and after that we must go to security section to renew this allowance for the another ten days.

The Iraqi government took us Lissaye passer that mentioned that we could go to four countries which were Turkey, Siria, Jordan, and Kuwait. But, no country accepted to give us visas.

American authorities in Ashraf Camp took us hostage for 5 years with the excuse of protecting us but the truth was they used us as cards in a political game – political balance with PMOI and Iranian regime - and when they saw so many hunger strikes and months of protests, they began to leave Iraq and they opened the door of the camp and let people go without any valid documents.

My fellow compassionate human beings, please condemn Turkey by contacting the Turkish embassies in your area. You can protest by calling, faxing, and e-mailing them. You can also contact your senators in the United States and protest the abuse of human beings.

The more you expose Turkey and its horrible practices the better, chances of helping those who will pass through this country's borders. For the past three decades people have lost their lives crossing the Turkish brooders and those who survived were so horrified and traumatized, they do not want to re-live the memory so they do not speak. I am breaking the silence and I know many of my fellow humanitarians would care as well.

Regards

Hassan

RE: Exposing Cruel, Racist Turkey

by Bored iranian dude (not verified) on

Oh please, you think Iran has a nice background with its own minority groups and militia groups that fight against it? It tortures and kills its own citizens who object for the sake of their own freedom for God sake. Before Iranians claim such a high morality over Turkey, Israel, US and so on, look at what your own country is doing first. At least I can walk with my girlfriend in downtown Ankara, Turkey without having the fear of having her getting beaten because of her clothing, or me having my tounge cut because I object to turkish government policies. Im not defending the acts of the above countries, but we have our own problems and responsibilities to handle before we leap on other countries. Btw, the MKO is an organization were each and every member should be sendt to court for treason. To bad we dont have a balanced court in Iran today that respects human rights that could take on such a mission.

Massoud Rajavi making love to ....

by MKO Nabashid (not verified) on

Massoud is in Ashraf city, Iraq, and when he is not killing Shiita's on behalf of "coalition forces", he makes love to the 9, 10, 13 and 14 year old girls who were born in Ashraf camp to Iranian parents who fled with him to Iraq. His "wife" Maraym is sleeping around with US and European politicians. In the word of one anonymous politician, "she is better than a street corner whore. When she is old and useless we will throw her out of Europe".

Terrorist mojahed...

by ramiN (not verified) on

Very good story, good to hear you went to a lot of pain, the ending however was bad, too bad you didn’t die like a dog you are.
Mojahedeens are bunch of terrorists and keshfar froosh , they assassinated so many good Iranians and then sided with Iraqi invaders and spied on Iran.
Now they are working for Americans and are trying to get UN sanctions approved against Iran so our people are starved to death.
At the end of the day you are a worse than a stray dog good on the Turks and I am surprised the Kurds didn’t chop your filthy head, after all you committed a lot of atrocities against them too.
Go to hell khak bar sar

Human Right violation is wrong. PERIOD.

by David ET on

Human right violations are wrong whoever does it and against whoever is done:

US, Isreal, Turkey, IR or MKO

Violating human rights is wrong : a terrorsit kept in Abu Gharib , a Hamas member in Isreal, A Mojahed in Turkey, a thief in Iran or a mullah by Mojahedeen, makes no difference.

Due process and human rights must be respected for ALL or its violation will hunt in our own homes sooner or later.

Human rights can NOT be applied Selectively . End does NOT justify the means!

Exposing Cruel, Racist Turkey

by Iconoclast on

This man's story is not about Mojahdeen, Iranian Islamic Repubilc or Saddam- all of which deserve our condemnations. It is about basic human rights. Turkey, using US tax payers's money, the U.S and NATO's funding and advanced weapons has been barbarically suppressing all its so-called minorities inclduing Greeks, Armenians and 15 to 20 millions Kurds, literally erasing about 4000 ancient Kurdish villages in the 80's and 90's.

It is not surprising that fascit Turkish Military abuses helpless defenceless refugees unless they can bribe Turkish commanders.

I saw a German TV footage in which a desperate Kurdish mother refugee escaping Saddam's killer helicopters in Turkey being obliged to offer her teenage daughter to the Turkish commander who was controlling food and tents supplied by Western charities to the starving refugees, hereded around by Turkish soliders exactly if they were dirty animals forcing them to sleep in the cold in the wild.

Then in the dark of the night on the same TV footage I head a man was shot dead.  A couple of fearful Kurds whsipered to the German cameraman in Kurdish 'the Kurd was shot by Turkish soliders because he did not follow exactly what he was ordered to do...

What is worse is that Turkish governement-influenced if not -controled media have Turkish population believe kind Turkey saved and sheltered and fed Kurds escaping Saddam!

Justice, Love & Peace for All

Your are right when saying "most of us hate IRI more", but as seen a number of posters on this thread not only hate MOK, but also show sympathy for IRI.

A fair and honest Iranian considers IRI / MOK from the same substance of Islam and sectrarism. For me also, IRI has thousand times morse record than MOK.
If MOK were mercenaries of Saddam, Mullahs are the core enemies of Iranism, they have damged our country and culture more than Saddam.

Apart from some IRI's thugs like Prince Asghar, Shab'oon beemokh, Amou, Prince Asgar, Faribrs,...
Now we have some regestered posters like Mr. Ben Madadi, who recently proudly showed us pictures of his trip to Iran.

I am sure if one day MOK gets power in Iran, Ben Madadi and his unregistered likes will get immediately a Yazdi silky Dastmal!

have some sympathy

by MRX on

Assuming this story is real, one should have sympathy for this guy and folks like him. As much as we don't like MKO, many of us and I suspect most of us hate IRI more. At least these guys, to their credit tried to take on the regime face to face and fight the fire with fire. We can argue that their collaboration with Saddam was wrong and all that specialy with their leadership but on an individual basis I am quite sure many of these people were/are fine people. As to expecting Turks to be humane, well that's a different ball game!

These brainwashed, filthy souls and cultish people must stand law and court. Let law and court decide.

The best we can do is to establish an unbending and independant judiciary system.

"Kalkhali" way of thinking must die forever.

??!!

by Ben Madadi on

So all the author is complaining about is that the Turkish authorities made them cross a river during the winter. Apparently they (the Turkish army) shot at them too, but they all survived????!!!! Such an army, right? Or, maybe, such a story?! The author has been member of a terrorist organisation for so long, who fought against Iran, who collaborated with Saddam, and all he is complaining about is that Turkey didn't treat him well enough? Hahahah!

Hey, are you serious man ? I mean, it took you 25 , TWENTY FIVE F.CKING YEARS to realize that Mojahedin was a cult, sectarian movement ? You gave up your wife, kids and everyhting to hang around in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of loosers in Ashraf...As some people said before, consider yourself lucky. In fact they could have kicked your asses in Erbil for what you guys did to them back in 91.

Go to hell. Freeze, and never think that the majority of iranians will ever have aany mercy for you.

p.s : French police found betweem 9 to 10 million dollars in MEK h.q in june 2003, go and ask for some of that money to get back on track.

MEK (British Parliament)

by AVAREH LOS ANGELES (not verified) on

Hassan Joon

My uncles were ex-Pasdaran and I do not understand that why the U.K. Parliament is backing this cult. They do not know their true nature. If they are a democratic force, why does Maryam Rajavi wears the Islamic dress and beats herself up with chains for Ashura Hosseini at Camp Ashraf and gives false information to U.S. and Israeli intellegence. They will build nukes if they replace Mullahs and join Soviets and Putin. That is their ideology. I feel sorry for our people who have suffered this past 28 long years of revolution: poverty, inflation, unemployement, economic sanctions, high dollar value, etc. Iranian people won't answer MEK demands from the superpowers. As Mr. Larijani said at Munich Conference last year, "DEMOCRACY is a path without outside threat and we believe in it." LARIJANI was an ex-pasdar. AHMADINEJAD might act weird but i think that he pushing the buttons for the West to begin a new conflict. He is only a puppet!!! I do not trust him. May God protect those who get brainwashed by wrong groups.

by Mehran (not verified) on

Mojaheddin were responsible for killing a lot of army and police officers at the time of the revolution. Their leadership collabrated with Saddam Hossien. Its ranks and files were ordered to work with Saddam's intelligence organization. And, they did. Shame on you for participating in such acts. What goes around comes around. May your faith be a lesson to those who follow cults, in the name of freedom, blindly. You must pay for those bad deeds.
Where is Maryam or Massoud to rescue you?

Pardon me for stating the obvious but you joined a morally bankrupt terrorist organization fighting against their own people, then tried to illegally cross a hostile border and now complain about your  situation?? YOU put yourself in a dangerous situation when YOU decided to join a violent organization, YOU put your life at risk so don't seek sympathy for a predicament that only YOU are responsible for.

SHAME ON YOU!

by Anonymous-Patriot (not verified) on

How dare you beg for our sympathies when you join the mercenaries who commit crimes against your own people? Mojahedeen or Mullahs??? I know which is worse. It is you. At least the Mullahs do not hide from the fact that are Arabs. You on the other hand are nothing but a parasite. You sell your soul to the highest bidder be it Arab, Turk, Soviet or American. I am angered by the Turks' actins on that day. The idiots aimed but missed your carcass and that is the sad part!!

The Turkish government is not known for their humanitarian deeds and that is the reason they let Romania in EU but not the Turkey. It will take them some time to become a first class civilized European Nation. In any case I feel sorry for you but I have no sympathy for Mohjahedin in general. Collaborating with Iran's enemy is a red line that should never be crossed. I also don't like Mojahedin cult practices.
