I don't have time to write a long blog or get into long comment exchanges with people but just today I noticed two things on IC that are not so great. One was when Simorgh tried to make a comment on Darius Kadivar blog. I have had my differences with Simorgh myself and I know he/she was banned for a while; possibly because of his exchanges with DK. But I think it should be fine if Simorgh is leaving a comment on DK's blog.
Second issue is MG telling all other bloggers what they should write about in a not so great tone. Issue started with IC featuring article titled:"Spelling Danger". Like many other articles written by Trita Parsi, after few comments, the thread degenerated into discussion of which one is worse, MEK or NIAC? It was frustrating. Still, I for one do not appreciate being told by Mash Ghassem what to focus on. Yes, we need to focus on prisoners and workers but if people want to write blogs and comment about relations betwen US and Iran or any other issue, they should not be made feel guilty. Last thing Iranian Diaspora needs is someone telling us what to focus on. Remember, many of us escaped from IRI because of this kind of attitude and other things that I am sure MG knows too. As such, we hate being told what to foucs on paricularly when it is married into a know it all, big brother tone. Somehow it seems wrong.

by MM on Tue Oct 04, 2011 02:40 PM PDTyou are right. we are all adults and no one should be setting us a priority order.
MG is also correct that some have an obsession nearing OCD when it comes to certain subjects which sucks all the energy out of all other subject.
I hope that we all get the right balance to concentrate on finer points in life as you and others are presenting to us as well as being advocates for the scores of of fellow Iranians who are in jails or are out opposing this oppressive IRI.

by Simorgh5555 on Tue Oct 04, 2011 02:33 PM PDTI have been advised to try and avoid confrontations despite the fact that I was not looking for one in the first place. Some people just won't let go but I'm not going to rise to the bait.
Darius can make a reference to me when he sees fit and even write a blog "The Orwellian nightmare" or whatever it was called to which I did not bother responding.
I simply made an observation on his Niall Ferguson blog which indirectly made a passing remark to him but I was not intending to engage him in a debate because, as he quite rightly observed its useless. The indirect reference to him was neither rude or derogatory.
This did not warrant a belligerent response, accusing me of being a fascists 'Aryan' loveing Nazi and implying I was a warmonger. He inititiated the flagging business and I refused to be bullied on who I can talk to or where to write. I do not need to be "welcomed" to write on any person's blog or be told who to or not to speak to so long as it is not abusive or predatory by nature. Given that he has previously labeled me as a "warmonger" I thought it was necessary to comment given he holds Ferguson in such esteem. Infact, there is a strong argument that once you publish your blog on this site you relinquish your copyrgiht so it doesn't actually belong to anyone.
I have only ever had one ID albeit anonymous but so do most users. I don't think coming with your own identity is a huge honar. Yes, if we were all self-employed, no immediate family and only responsible to yourself then of course you can be "accountable" for what you say because you can say what you like without censure or fear losing your job and livelihood. Most of us wish we had that luxury.
Finally, I am not trying to defend my actions against Darius Kadiva before. I did make abusive remarks against him and I think much of it was spurred on by his atttitude towards when asking him a question. Ask him the purpose of a blog in an Iranian related website his reaction is "Use your Imagination" or "Get a life". Another I.com user politely remarks that it is difficult to follow his discussion or blogs because it is inundated with links and embedded videos he remarks don't read my blogs. As I said that was before and I have already been banished, apologised for and do not defend my behaviour.
Despite being accused of being a fascists and suggestions that I am a 'Aryan' obsessed Nazi, it is fascinating how Darius Kadivar routinely divides Iranians into Monarchists and 'Jomhurikhahans' and resorting to abuse a group of a group who simply think differently because they made a poor choice. As an ardent monarchists, but not necessarily a huge supporter of Reza Pahlavi, I don't believe this 'them and us' attitude is healthy to the unification of Iran. The only priority is to remove this cancerous regime from Iran and then settle the form of governance by a public referendum which is exactly what Shahzadeh Reza Pahlavi says. To say nothing about the fact that he positively scalded me for 'slandering' Pendare Nik when he did the same and more. So if Darius Kadivar really believes that he should not be given preferential treatment he should abide by the same standards as he sets other people.
I hope this settles the matter. I want to avoid any un-necessary confrontations with Darius but I won't ne surprised if my comment gets flagged again.

BIG BROTHER or BIG SISTER is Your Own Bloody Creation
by Darius Kadivar on Tue Oct 04, 2011 01:32 PM PDTOtherwise might as well Stop ANONYMOUSLY flagging people for being politically incorrect in the First place ..
MY ORWELLIAN NIGHTMARE: Flagging Abuse based on Political Correctness is Not Fair
I've been attacked by so many ANONYMOUS Commentators over the years without the slightest Moderation from the Admin on this website that I am even beginning to confuse their names ( as I did with Q and another person related to you) and losing count with the number of people who try to get even with me for some comment made some 10 years ago ...
Simorg Got the Political Correct response to his own behavior for being Politically incorrect in my view. When I do the same, even with Humor I am flagged and my comments get immediately deleted but it barely raises an eyebrow from anyone nor does anyone conclude as to what I may feel about such recurrent attacks and mud slinging.
Was I being biased ? Heck YES and I won't Apologize for it given that this is EXACTLY the type of behavior used by ANONYMOUS people who keep attacking me on this website and teaming with others often under a different ID or some other subterfuge to satisfy their Vendetta.
I am not treated with any special preference by this website to which I contribute like the rest of you folks despite having earned my status as a feature writer some 10 years ago when this website was run based on some editorial accountability.
//iranian.com/dkadivar.html
One had to EARN their status as a feature writer after contributing in their humble but sincere capacity to turning this website into what it is today:
//iranian.com/writers.html
I have tried to do so over the years with all the changes that have appeared since and did so with Full Accountability for my opinions, tastes and a recognizeable style which I have devoloped over the years thanks to my own hard work and contributions without ever asking anything in return except being able to respond to people when challenged or hurt.
I never stopped others from doing the same because I consider it a fair fight to debate or respond based on how we feel on a given subject or group of people.
But the ANONYMOUS Flagging and Public forums have turned into a constant battle of egos more than anything else.
It is used and ABUSED by people who cannot put up with a debate or intellectual discourse or suffer from some form of an inferiority complex in the first place but then think they are entitled to respect and a response.
It's not the Opinion expressed which is the problem but the jealousy of seeing someone get attention because of his or her contributions which prompts many attacks I have been subject to over the years by the same brand of Anonymous Bloggers, many of whom hardly spend time blogging but at best commenting behind that same Bold Stance of Anonymity.
I don't own this website, I am not even sharing any of the profits here nor am I asking for any. But I believe that I do have an Intellectual Property on what I post on my blogs and don't deserve to be trashed by anonymous commentators. And if they Do then They Should do it with their FULL IDENTITY and be ACCOUNTABLE For their Comments.
We all have our personal and professional reasons to write otherwise I would probably never have done so some ten years ago when my brother mentioned me this website with this very first article:
Persia?
Ancient Persia's virtual absence in Hollywood
August 28, 2000
I am greatful to JJ for honoring me with this first publication and I have since tried to contribute with my passion, commitment, beliefs, sensitivity, outrage and admiration in regard to what I see and observe on a daily basis.
But who gives a SHIT ?
Some out there think I have a Political agenda when in Fact I just have Political opinions. Strong Opinions and Convictions for which I shall never apologize.
And then some of you come back complaining about having been Bullied ?
Which of you folks ever bothered looking at all the Feature Writers who founded this website in the early day ?

Dear Roozbeh and Bavafa jan, thanks for your comments
by Anahid Hojjati on Tue Oct 04, 2011 12:48 PM PDTRoozbeh jan, almost none of us listens to a commentator who calls another one Zionist just because the other one is a strong defender of workers rights and minorities, etc. in Iran.
Please write about workers strike and plight of Kurds in Petrochemical insutry, that is if you have tme. I am very interested in these subjects myself, and I am sure many are on this site.
thanks Mehrdad jan for your comment. You bring up great points.

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Tue Oct 04, 2011 12:42 PM PDTYou mention the pains of the Kurdish people all the time. Who called you anything? If I recall most people went to your defense when you get banned. Is this how you precive them! Thanks a lot!
I am sorry some people have a fixation on Parsi and NIAC. MG brought up a point on the strikes. I suggsted he write about it and he said there is already an article. But he did not put a link to it. Should we the readers be blamed for IC not featuring it? If you; MG and others commented on it they it would come up as "most discussed". But you and the rest prefer to spend your time bashing Parsi. If these issues are so important to you spend time promoting them. Stop lecturing me.
Just to add a couple of more cents that I have…
by Bavafa on Tue Oct 04, 2011 12:35 PM PDTFirst, I really like and appreciate that Anahid always acknowledges comment regardless of who/what. Not that I (we) need acknowledgements but I think it is nice and a reflection on her good personality.
But back to the blog/content and that my point was not to any one in particular and I think it will help if we don’t single out any one about this. Many are guilty of practicing this “big brother/sister” thing and on both side of the isle. I think it will be more constructive that way.
Likewise, I don’t think anyone’s writing or activity or lack of should be relevant to if he/she can dictate to others as what to focus on. We are all adults and can decide for ourselves what our priorities should by. However, this should not be preventing any one from giving a constructive criticism either.

Actually Mash Ghassem was right 100%
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Tue Oct 04, 2011 12:32 PM PDTHere we have, a bunch of seemingly well educated, intelligent Iranian folks, spending so much time debating a blog by a triple passport holding lobbyist representing a few hundred like minded individuals, debating an imaginary attack by US on Iran, whilst our country and it's people are literally bleeding to death. Really what is wrong with what Mashh Ghasem said? Does anybody here even know the significance of this strike by Iranian petrochemiocal workers let alone show some solidarity with or publicize their cause and brave action against the fascist regime? ? Does anybody care about our Kurdish compatriots being blown to pieces by the islamist criminals on a daily basis? Are we even allowed to mention on this site, the pain and suffering of our people in Iran without being accused of being a "zionist, bahai, neocon, separatist..."
Yes, as Mash Ghassem said" "khejalat ham khoob chizieh"
"Personal business must yield to collective interest."
Dear SK, speaking of poetry, a Syrian poet
by Anahid Hojjati on Tue Oct 04, 2011 12:30 PM PDTmay win this year's Nobel literaure prize. I read that since 1996, a poet has not been awarded the literature prize. Excitement is building up that this year, the Syrian poet Adonis might win. Here is a link to an article speculating about who will win the award.

Even "Bob Dylan" is among those considered. If Dylan wins, that will be exciting for me since I am a long time fan.

Dear comments and SK jan, thanks for reading.
by Anahid Hojjati on Tue Oct 04, 2011 12:12 PM PDTDear SK, I myself have enjoyed many contributions of MG such as when we did some group poetry translations in spring where MG was an active participant. I am sorry if I gave you the impression that what I wrote about MG is a general idea, all I wanted to do was about that specific article and MG's comments on that thread.
thanks SK for linking to your poem. I had seen your poem but I missed most of the comments. You did take a beating on that one. But I for one appreciate your poetry blogs. Thanks.
Anahid Jan with all due
by Soosan Khanoom on Tue Oct 04, 2011 12:01 PM PDTAnahid Jan with all due respect I think MG is the wrong guy to be blamed and / or to get the beating for this type of behavior on this site. I commented on that blog as well and I have not find myself offended by a few good points that MG brought up. There are certainly some other people on this site who act as you have suggested but MG, for sure, is not one of them.
Some of them even interfere with your poetry and demand you to write them a poem. Which is so funny .. they just remind me of Gestapo or our very own Ghasht-e -Sarallah in Iran ....
When the bouganvilla stops blooming its time
I guess we each have our own big brother on this site but again MG is not anywhere close to that ....
I hope you can see my points ...
Thanks

by Anahid Hojjati on Tue Oct 04, 2011 11:31 AM PDTI do agree with MG that workers' strike and prisoners' issues are very important but remember that many commentators on that thread; "Spelling Danger", writers such as Faramarz, MM, Masoud kazemzadeh, and many others are bloggrs/comentators who do write about crimes of IRI also.
Yes agreed
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Tue Oct 04, 2011 11:13 AM PDTI am really tired of "high horse" types telling us what is important. We are able to decide for ourselves. A war on Iran is not a small matter and is very important. In fact it will be the vehicle used to further the cause of political imprisonment. With a war IRI will declare emergency laws. Then if things are bad now they will get worse.
To respond to Mehrdad. We are always told we are agents of this or that. At this rate I have been called agent of IRI; Mossad; Evin guard; and God knows what else.
Most people making the accusations don't do jack themselves. Mostly sit on their bottom and type. Nothing useful; helpful or productive. I call it "nay saying".

How often is it that we are CRITISIZED and TOLD what we should focus on or else we are xyz agent or supporter.
Some could make a living out of telling others what should they focus on!!!
