I was at the store browsing jean pants when I found a size 0! I was thinking to myself, except for those who are genetically petit, who can fit in those. Next to me, was a 9 year-old girl, small structure and tall enough for her age complaining to her mother of having gained weight these past couple of days!!!! I looked at her, thinking she might be kidding, then I saw a sad look real genuin sad look. I was tempted to ask her about her ideal weight and what is it that she is so concerned, when her mom commented on her and reinforcing her idea by saying, "Don't worry sweetheart, there is always diet for us, and we will run 2 miles more tomorrow!" Like mother like daughter I was thinking, when I looked at the mother a blond, upscale kind of a woman with her name brand sun glasses on top of her hair.
Alright, who am I kidding? I have been on diet half of my now life and could not reach te happiness I was looking for; regardless, how much I lost including my sanity:).To the point where I stopped and started to be happy to how I am, a avarage structure, middle-eastern woman whose main diet is consisted of carbs as rice and bread. Although, I had to add some activity in my schedual to balance what I take in and out. I realized that I do not EVER fit in a size 4 let alone 0, because I am not built for that frame. How can I teach that to my daughter, whose hitting adolescence and hard to deal with her emotions at time? I started by accepting and respecting who and what she wants to be; and emptied my pantry from junck food, makinf her aware of choices and consequences. And more importantly let her watch "13". Anorexia, according to some research is closing up to 6 years of age. That is so scary. She is a seven grader now and has become vegetarian, except for our "Chelo Kebob".
To be thin or not to be is a choice we make, and no matter what drastic measures we put ourselves through, often times it comes with not very pleasant consequences.

Some advise
by JirJirak (not verified) on Thu Sep 18, 2008 05:26 PM PDTAzadeh Jan, sorry.I have no questions for you.But i have a question for The Mrs. So you can go biking or somthing while I ask her.Try 36 miles today and see if it works better for you.
Dear the Mrs: Other than eating healthy foods and biking a lot per day, what would you name the secret to being a size 0? Can someone go from a size 10/12 to a size 0 only thru exercise and diet?how long would it take? I need to be a size 0 to look fit, so I can find a cute boyfriend and access to a good sex life after I divorce my husband.I already quit smoking after your article about it.I listen carefully to what you have to say. I learn about so many things in life, nobody on this site has a life as good as you.Everybody else is a loser here. Please give me your advise.

by American Wife on Thu Sep 18, 2008 04:53 PM PDTShallow you say? It's the new generation my dear. They do not judge people by their kindness.. or their virtue How blase! Love someone for their spirit or generosity? How "conventional". If you're not Size O, you are not worth a second look. And obviously, some desperately need that validation.
No... I think I have another bastani. My validation is in the eyes of my husband...:-)
And one more thing
by mash mandali on Thu Sep 18, 2008 04:33 PM PDTHaalaa keh har ki har kieh, I just make some corrections here:
I'm a female at my 19, I wear a size -1 and I have a hard time shopping, cause no shop carries what I need to show off this God given bautiful body of mine, sometimes I have to go to Gap kids to find what suits me! even Victoria Secret stuff are for fatter chicks!
I wish it was .....
by mash mandali on Thu Sep 18, 2008 04:15 PM PDTSometimes I wish there was a way for JJ to mandate our real picture to be used as an avatar !
NOW that would be someting interesting!!! BUT.....the way it is..... well...
I'm going to chose a chippendale dancer as mine!
Aarezoo bar javaanaan eib nist!
I remember this bumper sticker:
No matter how gorgeous she looks, someone somewhere somehow is sick and tired of her B.S.
And I can see a lil sign of that here!
why are you so obsessed?
by American Wife on Thu Sep 18, 2008 02:07 PM PDTI certainly think that any and every subject is worth discussing but once again, it's amazing how catty theMrs can be. I've never seen someone so obsessed with how good they look as compared with how fat someone else is. You seem to get some perverted pleasure out of calling people fat. What IS it? Why do you care? When you DO have kids, sure, be concerned about their diet. Until then, why don't you give it a rest. I'm all about exercise and absolutely, the years and the kid have put a few extra pounds on me. So has the rice and bread in my new Persian diet. But my husband doesn't seem to mind and quite frankly, his opinion is the only one I care about.
Something else... I've always been of the opinion that people who constantly are bragging about how rich they are.. or how pretty they are... or how thin they are... AREN'T.
Reminds me of a joke I heard... two guys are at a bar and a great looking girl walks by and they are "whoo hoo, I'd love to have some of that"... and the guy at the table next to them turns to them and says "yeah, she might look good but some guy somewhere is going "thank god I finally got rid of that bitch".

by Azadeh Azmoudeh on Thu Sep 18, 2008 09:56 AM PDTDon't worry, I try my best not to crash!!! Thanks for the concern though. My bike is a mountain bike, but I use it anyway:) The rout I take is a bike rout so there is not cross roads or cars. But there is always the possibility of accident; however, accident can happen inside your house while descending the stairs (been there and man it hurt!).
PEACE
Reply to TheMrs.
by Azadeh Azmoudeh on Thu Sep 18, 2008 09:13 AM PDTI absolutely agree with you. (I hate to use however, but that's what I do here)However, part of self-image in this country and most of the world has become size and models. I was looking at the runway models and I was disgusted of how thin and ugly they look. I do believe women should have curve, that's part of being a woman. Also, like you I do believe women should be healthy too. You are absolutely right, sizes are only numbers, but size 14 for you, being size 0, is big; but let's not forget Merelyn Monroe was a size 14!!! And she was not big to no man alive on the face of this earth.
So, be who you are and don't kill yourself to be "fit" in the society, eat healthy, and remember TheMrs. Size do NOT matter as long as you are healthy!
PEACE
Don't crash
by FN (not verified) on Wed Sep 17, 2008 07:48 PM PDTMy daily ride was only 15 miles. In that three years I was almost ran over by trains and cars several times, and many crashes in the hills. The reason I stopped mountain biking was that I became more skillful than the type of mountain bike I was riding, and I never invested in an upgrade bike. My Ex was blowing too much money and I just couldn’t justify buying an expensive bike, that and I was scared.
Got you!

I proudly wear a size 0, and
by AnonymousTheMrs (not verified) on Wed Sep 17, 2008 06:31 PM PDTI proudly wear a size 0, and extra small tops. That's at Gap and Express. If I go to some other stores, it's 3. I can almost never find anything at Banana Republic. But hey that's just me! I have small breasts too. Which sucks. I recently bought a dress that was size 6 but it was stretchy and short so it fit me.
I don't think you need to diet to fit someone else's image of who you should be. If you feel "fit" and healthy, you're fine. That's what you should teach your child. The number on the clothes or the scale doesn't mean much.
But let's never kid ourselves that a size 14 is healthy and justifiable! It's ugly as hell to have sagging meat and cellulite every where. Some people need to JUST PUT THE FORK DOWN AND STEP AWAY FROM THE PLATE!
Being fat is nothing to be proud of and we should make sure we don't encourage our girls to get topol or "voluptuous".
If my daughter is getting a bit on the wild side, I would pull her to the side and explain the facts of life. If she doesn't want to be miserable and diabetic, she needs to eat healthy and exercise.
:) Peace to the world
Bicycle your way to fitness
by FN (not verified) on Wed Sep 17, 2008 04:27 PM PDTI was in the best shape of my life when I bicycled almost every day for about three years ten years ago. When I look at my pictures from back then I feel envious. I don’t think I’ll ever get into that shape again. Nowadays my weight hardly ever changes. I weigh my self almost every day and if I am gaining any weight I reduce what I consume. Do you ever go mountain biking?
Keep on bicycling,
