On this day in 1974, India detonated its first nuclear weapon, under Project Smiling Buddha. I don't know much about Buddha and his line of thinking, but I am sure he must've flunked a couple of courses in Physics otherwise he would have known that there is nothing funny or amusing about the explosion of an A bomb. I can only imagine the awesome reaction, and the amount of respectful recognition we will receive, not if but when, we get our peaceful nuclear technology fully up and running.
Of course it's impossible to think or talk about nuclear power and not mention the innocent victims of Hiroshima and Nakazaki:
