So I left my apartment yesterday, finally [see "Love & Loss"]. Mr. Eickner, my landlord, was happy. He walked in at 10:30 in the morning, seconds before I was done cleaning. I'm so good at doing things at the last second! The last hour I looked like someone on fast-forward spraying Ajax and wiping everything. The place was the cleanest it had ever been. I needed that deposit, you see.
Now I'm staying with Nersi and Bella, my cousin and his wife, until I head to LA in a couple of weeks. Last night our friend Lida came over and Bella made this great meal. My god it was so good. Something like khoresh loobia and brown rice with green peas and curried pieces of chicken with green and red peppers and an alfalfa salad with red and yellow tomatoes and fresh lemon juice.
So we were sitting around talking. Bella said have you heard the story about Boo Boo? Boo Boo is the name of their cat. I said no, what about Boo Boo? Bella said before this cat they had another one also called Boo Boo.
Years ago her cousin Buna was visiting from Prague and he saw Boo Boo's name tag. He liked it so much, he had one made exactly for his dog. The tag said something like "BOO BOO... If lost please contact owners at ..., Berkeley, CA". It didn't have his own address, but Nersi and Bella's. That's just Buna (remember Buna Nameh?)!
Buna went back to Prague and put the name-tag on his dog collar. One day the dog went missing. After a while a letter arrived at Nersi and Bella's house. It was from the American embassy in Prague: [LARGE IMAGE]
"Your dog, Boo Boo, has been found at the main train station in Prague.
"Please contact ... to locate your dog.
"Sincerely, R H Appleton

Peace and Quiet....

by TemporarilyAnonymous (not verified) on Fri Oct 03, 2008 01:47 PM CDT
I think I should be anonymous or everyone will have my head but doesn't peace and quiet also mean getting away from all OUR nonsense and noise? How can you have quiet and listen to what's inside of you when you're always 24/7 involved with us in what you've called our "24 hour party"? Wouldn't it be a good idea to take off say a month and have admin and the volunteers run the website? I mean, is it rocket science for admin to post articles and pictorials and feature blogs and have the volunteers screen goldfish? You can pay extra, you'll be living very cheaply off tamales. :o) And just not carry your laptop anywhere in Mexico, desert, mountains, fiestas....have you ever REALLY had one single day since the blogging and threading got intense a year ago when you haven't had space in your head filled with hundreds of virtual people??? Think about it, jj, just an idea...is this the way to become "a better man" and listen to your dreams? We would understand...in fact you wouldn't even have to tell us if you wanted to keep it "quiet"....

Booboo sounds sad...
by Azarin Sadegh on Thu Oct 02, 2008 02:52 PM PDTSweet story Jahanshah!...but what do you expect from a cat/or dog named Booboo? There's already an element of tragedy (loss in this case) in the name itself! ("Javid" sound like a better name, something that would last forever... :-)
BTW, I have already sent a message to Majid...Please count me in in any party organized in LA or OC!
(Thanks Majid!)

Fishy
by Jahanshah Javid on Wed Oct 01, 2008 12:33 PM PDTHooshang, the report was in Times of London:
//www.thetimes.co.za/PrintEdition/Article.asp...
My immediate reaction was that it's BS. But I'm open to evidence. Where is it? It just sounds very fishy and planting stories in the media is not that hard.
Anyway. Let's focus on my blog. Let's not lose Boo Boo again!
Goodwill
by Aliakbar (not verified) on Wed Oct 01, 2008 12:17 PM PDTYour giving away stuff to Goodwill reminded me of Jeesh Daram's article a while back giving away his child's mattress to Salvation Army.
Poor Goodwill! I wouldn't be surprised if right after you left they threw them all in the dumpster in the back of their store ;-)
So bottom line you still have stuff and like some of us can't bring yourself to get rid of them, huh? Call Junkyard they'll take away the moped.
I remember back in the days we furnished our apartments with throwaways. Never bought anything and moving was just throwing away stuff and getting "new" stuff !

Stuff
by Jahanshah Javid on Wed Oct 01, 2008 12:04 PM PDTAliakbar, I gave 10 large hefty bags full of clothes to Goodwill. The TV, bed, the kitchen table, chairs and plates and pots and pans I left for the new tenant, Ali, who is a close family friend. I have about 10 boxes full of stuff (books, letters, documents, mementos...) in the garage. There are few more boxes of junk in my car. I have two small suitcases full of clothes. That's it. Oh, and I still have to sell the damn moped!

World affairs
by Jahanshah Javid on Wed Oct 01, 2008 11:21 AM PDTThanks Hajminator! Can you imagine receiving a letter out of the blue from the Consul General of the U.S. embassy? About a pet named Boo Boo? I guess senior diplomats are not always busy with more important world affairs :o)

by Hajminator on Wed Oct 01, 2008 11:07 AM PDTI'm very happy that you succeeded over the cleaning duty. I guess it was a tuff thing to do but, all is well that ends well you might feel yourself very relaxed now...
Boo Boo's story is an extraordinary one, I'm wondering if the address on the tag was somewhere else in the world what would have happened...
