Nematollah Aghasi (1939-2005) brought more joy to Iranians than any ruling Mullahs ever have. He died on this day four years ago. Below is my translation of his most famous song.
Ameneh - by Aghasi
My heart, saddened from your spite
In my chest, sadness reside
My heart’s dwelling, destroyed from sublime
Why is this tradition of the time!
Ameneh, your eye, my wine’s chalice
Ameneh, your frown, my pain and malice
My life is on fire from your deed
Your passion won’t leave my heart, indeed
Ameneh, my heart, for you it beats
Ameneh, don’t afflict, my heart bleeds
Ameneh, your name is my pain and misery
Ameneh, without you, my heart, my life’s agony
My heart gone mad with your mystery
My life drowning for your necessity
Your affected manner, my wine cover
O by God! Your manner!
Ameneh, your name is my pain and misery
Ameneh, without you, my heart, my life’s agony

Thus the call for POLICIES so that members are not at the mercy of what an individual may 'feel' 'may' happen!

I don't remeber the exact wording of it, but I thought the discussion might take a wrong turn because of it. Perhaps the Editor had the same feeling. I did not flag the comment. If I felt like it was offensive I would have flagged it.

by yolanda on Thu Nov 05, 2009 04:27 PM PSTHi! MDP,
I checked Aghasi on English Wiki this morning, I found nothing, but they do have a page for Googoosh...maybe you should submit your long voluminous comment about Aghasi to Wiki, so English readers can read about this legend......you may need to take out the one sentence containing the word "vagina", everything else is great!
Another thing, you keep using the word "simple" or "simplicity" to describe his songs.....we call it "pop" music here, right? I know one type of Persian music that they use poems from ancient poets....... apparently this guy has modern approach to his lyrics....
I got to hit the road.....Sorry I don't have time to proof-read my post, I will do that later.....
thanks,
Shekam digeh!

Who's 'shekam'???
by HollyUSA on Thu Nov 05, 2009 04:25 PM PSTNot sure. But even if that was the case, that would be a pretty lame functionality feature!

by HollyUSA on Thu Nov 05, 2009 04:21 PM PSTYep it was deleted but unfortunately no one in charge seems to see fit to respond to any inquiries about policies.
JJ, can you PLEASE explain. It might be helpful to start a blog on the subject of policies, if there are moderators, what the guidelines are etc. I really don't see why you don't address this issue. The least you can do is tell us why you won't!

by Souri on Thu Nov 05, 2009 04:19 PM PSTYour comment is gone with Bot shekan's comment.
It is just a technical problem. Sometimes it happens. Don't worry.

by shifteh on Thu Nov 05, 2009 04:19 PM PSTThanks for clarifications. Then one can assume that the editor found Holly's comment offensive?!
Did you find anything offensive in Holly's post? Just curious...
HollyUSA,
by Multiple Personality Disorder on Thu Nov 05, 2009 04:17 PM PSTI have no ability to delete comments. Bloggers in general, as far as I know, have no ability to delete comments. Only the Editor has that ability, as far as I know, and I have asked this question, if anyone else other than the Editor has the ability to delete comments, many times before, and the answer is always no. Only the editor has that ability, to delete comments, as far as I know.

by Souri on Thu Nov 05, 2009 04:15 PM PSTDo you have that song of Aghassi which says :
maro ba digari...oumadeh divouneye to be dar khouneye to maro ba digari?
I don;t know what is tha name of that song ? Farokhzad has sang it with Aghassi.
Thanks MPD for the great translation and the nice music.

by shifteh on Thu Nov 05, 2009 04:15 PM PSTI read your comment and then BAM! it was gone!
This is very strange; i do not understand why your very bengin comment should be deleted. It was not offensive, nor abusive or rude.
Are there moderators who delete comment just because they don't like them?! What is the guideline here? Can someone explain?
pedro,
by Multiple Personality Disorder on Thu Nov 05, 2009 04:10 PM PSTAccording to the following reference, Aghasi has seven children and two grand children. I had the reference linked to my blog, but when I checked it again it was disconnected. I'll fix it later, but here is the link again for now:

by HollyUSA on Thu Nov 05, 2009 04:05 PM PSTDid you delete my comment or am I seeing things?
Please, before things get out of hand
by Multiple Personality Disorder on Thu Nov 05, 2009 03:53 PM PSTIn my long comment I was not referring to any specific person when I used the word "trash". Please let's focus on the issue of the current government that we have, which has destroyed many of the performing arts in our country, including the legacy of singers like Aghasi.
We all have different tastes for music and art in general, but they are all good and as long as they bring joy to the people. Well, now that I think about it some forms of art are about sadness, madness, despare, etc. but I guess as long as they are entertaining, they are fine, they are fine art.

Aghasi
by pedro on Thu Nov 05, 2009 02:50 PM PSTNematollah Aghasi, rest in peace.
I enjoyed his songs in childhood, as i grew we sang his songs in our iranian gatherings. Everyone enjoyed his songs. We truely miss him.
It is been said that he limped because when he was an infant, while sleeping under the KORSI, he placed his right foot into the hot coal in the MANGHAL and sevierly burnet his foot.
I wonder if he had any children?

by capt_ayhab on Thu Nov 05, 2009 02:49 PM PSTI have always loved this song.
Last time I saw him was in a private concert we had, where we live. Shortly after he passed away. Rouhesh shad, he brought many smiles to otherwise sad faces.
Thanks MPD
Ms. Azarin, in actuality his style and lyrics are more genuine than current music that so called LA singers spew out on daily basis. Proper translation of his style will be[kooche baazari] which is known in western land as [blue grass].

by Ari Siletz on Thu Nov 05, 2009 01:17 PM PSTOn the matter of the name "Ameneh," sometimes I wonder if the title of Mohammad as "Amin" wasn't really a refrence to his mother's name. In some cultures a kid's street name is his given name followed by the name of his mother. A famous example is Paco de Lucia.
Sousan is another great singer who came from the masses.........
by Multiple Personality Disorder on Thu Nov 05, 2009 12:55 PM PSTMaybe one day I'll translate one of her songs. She also had a tragic life.
Great explanation MPD. Please translate 1 4 Sousan 2 some time
