Ruining A Nation

It’s all been done,
looting the ancient land is complete,
a nation long adored throughout ages

Poor people turned into beggars
Destroyed!
Their bowls filled with tears, their cups with poisons

Headdress and cloak governs,
without knowledge and perspicacity,
whatever there was is destroyed by rotten voracity

Happiness is chained, smiles are in bondage
Laughter is in prison!
Wails and cries, from dawn to dusk

No sign of melody nor of songs, neither of flower
from warble of nightingales,
night’s owls wailing day and night from roof tops

Nothing but rending clothes, mourn, and grief
Hypocrisy!
Nothing coming out of platters of devout illusionists

Neither freedom, or wisdom, nor justice they seek
Dealers of righteousness!
In places of worship and death, worshipers of idols

False prophesy and superstition common, abound
Delusion is the norm!
On pedestals are men of the book, spreading their traps

Forcing veils and covers, equating it with dignity
Behold the foolishness!
Free-spirited people are in pain from this vulgarity

Hanging on the ropes are the free, the sensible ones
The time is burdened with evil,
every thief and felon raking in worldly riches

My friends!  Don’t be sad,
other times will surely come
Reign of evils will end, one by one

Thanks for the beautiful adaptation MPD

Dear MPD

I have to say that this adaptation is more beautiful than the original poem in Persian. Excellent Job.

As a bonus, I have learned a new word "Perspicacity". I now have to learn how to pronounce it and how to remember it!

Dear Yolanada

Thanks for your kind words.

Hi MPD,

Thank you for using 'Perspicacity'! It is a cool word......it has good meaning and it sounds great! Perspicacity means "acumen"......anyway, if you are perspicacious, you are smart!

The last Divaneh's Farsi poem, you translated and I like a lot is about Shahla Jeddah....the girl who got executed for alleged murder of Khani's wife! Divaneh is a great poet! I hope he writes more!

You always pick great poems to translate! That is awesome!

Thank you for reading both of the poems; originally, this one by "devaneh," and the other one by "Mehrban".

Thank you, Divaneh, for writing this sad Farsi poem. Thank you, MPD, for translating this vivid poem......so I have a chance to read this great poem.  From this poem, I see tyranny, and I see crazy mullahs cause havoc in Iran......I see the bad guys pilfer billions from state coffer.......I see women being oppressed.....I see poverty.....I see happiness and fun being replaced by Islamic dogmas....

While dictators are falling one by one, Khamenei has the chutzpah to abolish the presidency and consolidate his absolute power. Just hope that Iran's winter is not too long, and Spring is around the corner!

My favorite verses:

Great choice of words and great writing!

Perspicacity!

by Multiple Personality Disorder on

I didn't know what "perspicacity" meant either.  I think this might been the first time I saw it.  This is not a word that is usually used in day-to-day life.  I know what "keeyaasat" means in Farsi, but in English!  Anyway, I looked it up in a Farsi-to-English dictionary, and "perspicacity" sounded really like an important word.  It rhymes well with voracity anyway.
