As someone who is academically trained ...... I should say that the almost exclusive reliance upon anecdotal evidence to come to conclusions is not acceptable ....... and this needs to be harped upon again and again....... collection of data and analysis based upon sound social science methods which are published in peer reviewd journals are soly needed.  

You organize a hearing with evidence NOT with bias .........

Back to the topic and to those who says this is not an issue

I believe we will see many peoples’ lives, families and careers trashed by King, his henchpeople, and others using the King hearings as a model.  I believe that is King’s intent and agenda. 

I don’t agree with dignifying and normalizing this horrible spectacle of Muslim-bashing bigotry,  which is what I consider King’s hearings to be. 

King’s investigation has at last brought some very influential and important voices in from the sidelines where – up until now – too many have been unresponsive to pervasive anti-Muslim abuses and the fear-, hate- and bigotry-mongering which is proliferating in US public and political discourse.  Many people across the political spectrum are stepping forward to support our Muslim friends and neighbors.

That stepping forward against bigotry is something North American and European Muslims have hoped to see for a very long time.  For example many “mainstream” Jewish voices and institutions have spoken out against this demonization of Muslims.  This is a rare opportunity to mobilize and cement deeper and broader relationships between Muslims and other groups in our society.  Saying, “Well, it’s not all that bad.” undermines that bridge building and strengthening.  And it IS every bit “that bad” in my opinion.
