Maryam Mirzakhani  (Born May[3] 1977 Tehran) is an Iranian mathematician, Professor of Mathematics (since September 1, 2008) at Stanford University.[4] Her research interests include Teichmüller theory, hyperbolic geometry, ergodic theory, and symplectic geometry.[3]

She found international recognition as a brilliant teenager after receiving gold medals in both the International Mathematical Olympiad (Hong Kong 1994) in which she scored 41 out of 42 points, ranking her 23rd jointly with five other participants, and in the International Mathematical Olympiad (Canada 1995) with a perfect score of 42 out of 42 points, ranking her 1st jointly with 14 other participants.[5]

Mirzakhani obtained her BSc in Mathematics (1999) from the Sharif University of Technology. VPK, Believe it or not, I am actually in total agreement w/ you!

When one talks about a nation or religion he tends to stereotype, and normally it is based on what is perceived to be prevalent, or at least what one thinks to be the case.

The way the human's brain works is to be the most efficient way to achieve a result, and stereotyping is the product of that always finding short cuts. However, we know better. I actually do know many nice and fair minded zionists who would disagree with this professor or the anti irani guy. it is about harassment. so one person can say all the trash to me, but i cannot respond!

Thank you for your kind words. There are Iranians on the far right who has lost it. They seem to forget that there is a lot of blame to go around for the IR mess. Some of it belongs to the right and some to the left.

Again I want to be fair and many rightists are fine people. But there are some who are off in the outer space. Instead of doing anything good they whine.They want to prove they are real Americans and to the right of Likud in Israel.

My father told me that if IR ever goes these people will go back for one reason. To get their money out and have no plan to stay. He is right. These people look at being Iranian as a shameful thing to run away from. Why do they even post here.

The one thing  about America is that you can become an American. Leave behind your old nation. So what are these guys waiting from? If someone is so embarrassed of being Iranian then don't be one! If not then do something helpful.

Sharif University is one of the best in the world. If Stanford does not want them other places do. It will be a loss to Stanford. Nevertheless I hope NIAC does sue them. They deserve to be taken to the cleaners for supporting this jerk.

Thanks for your patience with postings and answering so many outrageous remarks.  There are two things that I should mention briefly:

1. The readers who looked at this jerk's website should have recognized a prodigeous blind the moment he confessed that he "believed that the shooting of the Iran-Air flight was justified" or that "the 1953 coup was justified because ....".  Case closed - for anyone with any Iranian background. 

2. In a different posting, I mentioned that many of the emails to this jerk have been from Sharif university undergraduates, famous for being Iran's MIT, and one of the best undergraduate technical schools in the world, especially in the field of electrical engineeing.  So, it is Stanfords loss, and this idiot should be censured by Stanford for depriving them of the cream of the crop. Below, you will find what Newsweek reported on Stanford's staff regarding Sharif University students, so maybe this "emeritus professor", on his way out of site, is just plain jealous!

Courageous?   How is a Stanford Computer Science professor, who opines on 1953 coupe, shooting down a passenger plane is even relevant to his academic work?   Why is he using Stanford URL to even single out Iranian students?   Is he only getting this type of inquiry from Iranians?

This looks very much to me like an excellent case for a law suite against Stanford, should they not take appropriate action.   Stanford is in the middle of Silicon Valley in California, the most liberal part of U.S.  Filled with minorities who would not stand this type of crap, particularly from a University professor using not his personal site but a university resource to vent out his hate.

In one email to an Iranian graduate student, the professor responded to an inquiry about admission to his department saying, "Even if I were in a position to help, I will not help Iranian students until Iran recognizes and respects Israel as the land of the Jewish people." 

Basically he is saying that Iranian students are responsible for actions of IR. When did:

• Iranian students become responsible for actions of IR?
• Recognition of Israel become a requirement for getting into Stanford?

I know MKO now works for AIPAC but you could be a bit less obvious.

By beyond redemption I was referring to another post I had made. On several occasions Fesenjoon had posted examples of "bad" Iranians. I provided examples of "good" Iranians. He claimed that Iranians are specially "bad" as a people.

I provided examples of other "bad" non Iranian people. Hoping that he would realize that bad behavior is a part of human nature. Not anything that one groups does. Parthianshot91 told me that this was not going to work. I had hope.

Regarding "Liberal" or "Conservative" the meaning is different in America vs Iran. You are right we are considered "Liberal" by IR and "Conservative" by Iranian standards. I prefer to say I am "secular"; believe in "Greater Iran"; and refuse to kiss up to Iran haters.
