I attended this ceremony and I saw how John Carpenter was crying how Imam Hossein was stabbed in the ass by Yazeed. What makes us guys to keep going to these events is not the love for Islam, Imam Hoeesin, or any of the nonsense, it's purely for free Khoresht'e Ghaymeh and Abgoosht. It has always been that way!
With that, I say
Ya Imam Hoseein Rafti, Be Kiram!

What You are all missing !!
by masoudA on Sat Jan 26, 2008 09:02 AM PSTWith the exception of a couple of you - the rest are missing the point.
This is the ISlamic Republic threatening America at our expense!!
The mullahs are portraying all of us as idiots like those who run the masjid Ali as pointed out by Mr. Carpenter. If you recall about a year ago the mullahs had hinted they had 20,000 operatives in the US. It's a big lie - but it can influence politicians in America, which is exactly what the mullahs are hoping for.

She/He who has seen the Ashura ceremonies in tehran knowes now why the not any more so great satan has not yet dare to behave respectless against the honorable Iranian Nation. To that Nation count - up to my opinion - the ones who founded thier ISLAMIC REPUBLIC of IRAN 1978/79 , are living there and are willing to protect what they have achieved in during the last 30 yeras. The ones who suggest to deporte the mourning poeple in NY/Manhattan have also realized the political impact which these ceremonies have. Some others bring the american tolerance in the game unregarded the fact that being a believer is the obvious and natural right of human beings. so letting the believer practice thier religion has in the reality nothing to do with tolerance. ans how can God bless America as long as they themselves do nothing to get free from claws of the - however not any more - great satan? laying in its death bed and air snapping. Better americans do not wait passively but help a little to make the air snapping Phase as short as possible. Greeting

MUST SEE - My faviorit Ashura video -
by Anonymous... (not verified) on Sat Jan 26, 2008 02:13 AM PSTI have not been to one of these in nearly 30 years ...
When I saw this video, I was so impressed ...
I view this as master PIECE OF ART - In this concert
you do not need any drugs to reach higher plane ...
----------------------------
The road to spirituality and the little helpers : ZAR-ZARI
Music is to entertain, heal and also to channel or reach higher plane of spirituality.
There is mental state that one aspires to attain with help of music.
It is the pleasure that drives one toward the music. Pleasure induced through material means but result, the feelings can be spiritual.
From Western prospective, the MUSIC experience remains PURE in the sense the ritual remains primitive. As with old age shaman practices, one would have bit of this and that (acid, alcohol…)to help them reach the trance state. It takes more than music alone. There are the little helpers; the lights, the glitter, the frenzy of dance movement and the high adrenaline all to work together to induce the alter state.
In this particular approach we seek higher sate not in search of PURE pleasure and pleasure alone ...
but in search of spirituality ...
happens happens to be a byproduct and inconsequential.
The Eastern approach aims to take one to nirvana without the little helpers.

by Concerned Iranian (not verified) on Fri Jan 25, 2008 08:23 PM PSTThis is not as bad as you think. Prior to 9/11, the world had not seen these people in real life. Many thought "people are people," no matter where they are from, no matter what religion or religious denomination. By having these people in NY, making a mockery of their own religion, I do not think they need any enemies. The spectators (if there were any) can see that these are people who violate their own bodies for their zeal. Next time someone says these people are like everyone else, you can point at this (and those ghameh zanhaye Iraq and Iran) and say: " No, people are NOT the same everywhere. We have these sadistic beasts living in our very own country."
More contradictions
by John Carpenter (not verified) on Fri Jan 25, 2008 08:19 PM PSTThere is this organization that runs parties in New York City. The parties have DJs, pop music, and alcohol. The same guys that run these parties are the guys who come to the iiny masjid regularly. As I said they live a contradiction.
They serve Khamenei, but they are the most corrupt. Don't believe that one day of chest beating.
I believe their site was: persianguestlist.com
Run by Hizbollahis.
One of the co-ordinators of the persiangusetlist parties is related to Farah Pahlavi by marriage. And that guys family is in the wholesale rug business in New York.
Sinehzani in Manhattan and the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi
by John Carpenter (not verified) on Fri Jan 25, 2008 08:12 PM PSTPlease go check out this site:
iiny.org
The Iranians who participate in the chest beating in Manhattan are from the Masjid in queens run by the islamic institute of New York(iiny). Who owns the iiny building where the masjid sits? Bonyad Alavi, the Alavi foundation. The Alavi foundation is a non-profit organization started by the Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi before the revolution. After the Revolution the Courts decided to give the Iranian government control of the organization to the detriment of the Pahlavis who believed they did not steal enough money.
Farah and Farahnaz Pahlavi both own 18 karat dildos.
Anyhow, the iiny is run independantly from the Iranian government but, the iiny and the Alavi foundation are pro-Khamenei. The majority of the masjid people are freeloaders. They just come for the free food. Free dinner is paid by new york city bazaris in the wholesale rug businesses and other businesses like the jewelry business in the diamond district in Manhattan.
These bazaris drink alcohol and eat pork 365 days a year in order to beat themselves for Ashura in order to gain a place in paradise. It is the ultimate "bedeh va bestoon" arangement.
Don't believe that all these guys are devout Shias.
Lack of Beverage in Karbala
by Movaffagh (not verified) on Fri Jan 25, 2008 08:00 PM PSTWatching this little procession in NY brought back some fun memories from my childhood in Iran. I remember how me and the kids my age in the neighborhood used to get really pissed around Ashura when the regular programming on the radio and TV were preempted and religious marches were played for 3 straight days and these idiots would do this act on the streets leading to the Masjid where they were fed free meal, Halva and Sholeh Zard and Gheimeh (see my comments below). And that was what this whole thing was all about. We used to follow them from the sidewalks, hit them on the head with Hasteh Aloo and Hasteh Gojeh and make fun of the chants like…Dar Karbala Aab Nabood Pepsi Cola Bood .., Shishash Sefid o Khodesh Siah Bood or:
از كرج تا سنگ ِلك داور صدا ميزد فوله
بندهِ تمونت شله
Sorry that I missed it this year!

PS. By the way check out my posts on that blog.
Rosie, Thank you for your profound and enlighted comments!

It looks like you are changing the subject, and making complicated statements that some of us simple-minded people can not follow. Go ahead! Enlighten us! But please try to make simple statements. I am sure it is very difficult for you to do that! Sometimes a yes or no will do. Like do you agree with them? (Yes, or no).
I was asked to join this thread...
by Rosie T. on Fri Jan 25, 2008 06:20 PM PSTI was asked by someone on my own blog to participate in this discussion, so at the risk of being labeled again a civilizing missionary, I am doing so. I want to tell you that there was recently a rather exhaustive discussion on Ashura under the following entry:
//iranian.com/main/albums/crying-camera
And I’m posting my second to last post on it here but before I do I want to remind you that ritual of sacrifice is the foundation of ALL Abrahamic religions. Ashura is repugnant to the mind of those brought up in the Secular Enlghtenment but the Secular Enlgihtenment has hypocritically unleased moie global violence than any previous ideology. It is sad. I have no opinion one way or the other about Ashura but I have to say that it is the exact same ritual as appears in Christianity with the wine/blood of Christ, except that it is less hypocritical. Because the Secular Enlightenment was a direct result of Christianity which, along with the massacre of the Children’s Crusade, the Inquisition, and the Protestant massive-scale witch burnings, brought us atomic bombs and the Holocaust.
This is the post I refered to and anyone who’s interested can view the thread it responds to. Devout Muslims and secularists all participatedL Man is half animal and half angel. At least in Ashura the violence is directed on oneself. It is Islamicism, a POLITICAL ideology, not Islam, that harnessed the martyrdom of Shiism for its own ends.
My second to last comment on that discussion of Ashura:

They should be deported
by Amir Nasiri (not verified) on Fri Jan 25, 2008 05:27 PM PSTThey are terorists who live in USA. These are the same people who have destroyed Iran. Who even lets them into this country. I hope FBI has made note of them and deports them all back home.
These people have brought Iran's economy to its knees. People are freezing to death in a country with abundant natural gas resources.
These mules and facists are trying to display their ugly images on the streets of the most democratic country in the world.
This is not freedom of speech but impose of a fascist religion upon us.
Absolutely DISGUSTING!!!
by Kaveh Nouraee on Fri Jan 25, 2008 04:46 PM PSTWhoever was the jackass at City Hall who granted these morons a permit to assemble in the middle of Manhattan and yell Allah o Akbar just a few blocks from where a dozen other morons yelled the same thing before blowing up the WTC should lose their job.
I am all for freedom of assembly/religion/blah blah blah, but anyone who is going to do this in the middle of NYC obviously has no regard for the feelings of others who live there. I can only imagine what some of them must have been thinking when they saw this spectacle.
These people should all go to Saudi Arabia.
It's funny..........
by Majid on Fri Jan 25, 2008 04:42 PM PSTI remember soon after Iraqi invasion, a lot of people in Islamic countries were saying " Bush and his administration are anti-Islam",
So to capture their heart George Bush invited tons of Islamic embassadors and their staff to the White House for an "EFTAARI " in Ramezaan ! and I was thinking, when Khomeini was saying " we're going to fly Islamic flag over the White House " he knew what he was talking about....LOL
I could not wait to see a "sofre hazrat-e kolsoom or a Sham-e Gharibaan " in white house as well !
Now with this video it looks like that those are next !!
