* Homayoun Katouzian in Portland
Two lectures by Professor M. A. Homayoun Katouzian in Portalnd on Tuesday
April 19 at the University of Washington in Portland. The first, titled
"Democracy and the Public Sphere in a Contemporary Islamic Society,"
will be in English and will take place at 1:30 PM in Balmer 207. The second,
given in Persian at 8 PM in Savery 249, will explore the cultural roots
of authoritarianism in that country. Professor Katouzian is an established
scholar of contemporary Iran and comes to us from the Universities of Oxford
and Exeter in England.
