Warsaw became the capital of Poland because it was geographically close to Lithuania when that Duchy joined it in a 16th century Commonwealth. It was razed to the ground in 1944 because the uprising of its residents outraged the occupying Germans. It was rebuilt by the Polish Communist regime and received its largest landmark building as a gift from Stalin after WWII. It emerged as a leader in the movement that by 1990 ended the European Communist Empire established by Russia, Poland’s nemesis for over two centuries>>>

The regime running Iran should get no credit for the advancement of women. That credit goes to the progressive people of that country for resisting and circumventing a fanatical government which has made every attempt to block their progress by putting them on unequal footing. Forced hijab is the most powerful symbol of that policy. Second, Iran should not be considered an Islamic state -- whatever that means. A prerequisite for a person to be a true Muslim is free choice and since Iran doesn't allow that opportunity to its people, it fails the Islam test>>>

How will we know that we have reached the shores of enlightenment? The answer is simple; when the large demonstrations by Muslims turn into protests against miscreants like Ben Laden and Anwar Al Awlaki. When talk of enforcing Sharia law is reserved to a few outcasts without the general support of Muslims. When there is no talk of oppression of women in Muslim countries and women are afforded equal opportunity. When burning a Quran is not worthy of news anymore and Muslims can study the book with a critical eye and without the fear of persecution>>>

گالری ژرم د نوآرمون (Jérôme de Noirmont در منطقه هشتم پاریس برای نخستین بار در فرانسه میزبان آثاری از شجاع آذری بود: پنج نقاشی ویدئویی از مجموعه ای با عنوان «تمثال ها» (Icons, 2010)، و دو چیدمان ویدئویی، «روز قیامت» (The Day of Judgment, 2009)، و «هیچ گناه کاری در جهنم نیست» (There are no non-believers in Hell, 2010)، مجموعه آثار به نمایش گذاشته در گالری را تشکیل می دادند. شجاع آذری که متولد ۱۳۳۷ (1958) در شیراز است، از سال ۱۳۶۲ (1983) در نيويورک منزل گزیده و در این شهر به کارش ادامه میدهد>>>

Soccer is the great global game: the closest thing we have to a connective cultural tissue that binds our species across national and cultural borders. But only in a world so upside down could “the Beautiful Game” be run by an organization as corrupt as FIFA and by a man as rotten to the core as FIFA President Sepp Blatter. Only Sepp Blatter, whose reputation for degeneracy approaches legend, would hire a war criminal like Henry Kissinger to head "a committee of wise persons" aimed at “rooting out corruption” in his organization>>>

با يک حرکت ساده تمام شد. راحت تر از آنچه که فکر مي کردم. چاقو، تا ته رفت توي سينه اش. دستم را بردم بالا. بوسيدمش. چاقو، توي دستم بود. به لب هاي خوش ترکيبش نگاه کردم. مي ايستادم، لب هاش، روبه روي چشم هام بود. نگاه نکردم به چشم هاش مي دانستم ترسيده؛ شايد هم نه. مي ترسيد، چشم هاش گرد مي شد. يک قدم رفتم عقب. نگاه کردم به لب هاش. دستم را آوردم پايي>>>

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to a joint session of Congress brought political theater to a new height-and the State of Israel to a new low. With his unabashed arrogance and demagoguery on display as never before, Netanyahu's address effectively slammed shut any window of opportunity for a peace settlement. Perhaps he could not hear the windows closing through the deafening applause of more than two dozen standing ovations from the members of Congress>>>
