British historian David Starkey tries to talk about the English Riots on the BBCs flagship current affairs program Newsnight. He's never able to finish a point and is constantly talked over by two other debaters with no help from the chair. (NOTE: Only for UK viewers Full Version of the Program available here)
BBC’s Newsight on the 12th of August 2011:
Following the program Twitter erupted last night after David Starkey’s appearance on Newsnight. The general consensus was that he was guilty of racism. Among those objecting on Twitter was the Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn, who addressed the following question to Newsnight: “Why was racist analysis of Starkey unchallenged? What exactly are you trying to prove?” But was Starkey being racist? Or merely making a blunt yet legitimate Observation?

by Truthseeker9 on Mon Aug 15, 2011 01:43 PM PDTI read all your links and they are interesting, especially Toby Young's . Trouble is you can't say anything due to Political Correctness. I think he meant "gang culture" just as David Cameron was saying in the House of Commons. Trouble with Starkey is he doesn't take care with words, and now its a case of Shoot the Messenger.
Darius jaan Ann Coulter is ALWAYS wrong!
by Esfand Aashena on Mon Aug 15, 2011 06:23 AM PDTThe only reason she says anything is to stir controversy and sell books! Like many others, like Laura Ingram, she is the product of the Monica era and owes everything to Clinton otherwise no one would know or care who she was!
As far as white "becoming" black, first of all White were always better at milking Govt handouts. Second the black riots were about race relations and not economics. This is an economic riots so comparing it to black riots is not fair.
It's like when JJJ compares Crazy Horse with Chengis Khan or Saddam. Why stop there why not compare him with Hitler?! Would US ever build a monument for Hitler?! You just can't compare anything to anything!
Everything is sacred
So ? Because she said it on O'Reilly it means she is wrong ?

If David Starkey is racist then so is everybody ...
by Darius Kadivar on Sun Aug 14, 2011 12:30 PM PDTIf David Starkey is racist then so is everybody – by James Delingpole (Daily Telegraph)
"To pillory a man for pointing out such a glaringly obvious cultural fact just because he’s white and Right-wing would have been quite wrong even before the riots. Post riots it is positively obscene.
Not just obscene, in fact, but dangerous. Of course, we expect the BBC not to get it. Like the Guardian – and the Labour party – the BBC created the culture that led to these riots, so it’s hardly surprising if it carries on playing the old PC game like the 80s and 90s never went away. But if an up and coming member of Cameron’s Tories ( i.e: MP Louise Mensch who has been lynching Starkey as she lynched CNN's Piers Morgan in the Murdoch Tabloid Controversy) hasn’t got the message then we seriously need to worry. The riots were a game changer. The decent majority of this country has moved on. If what David Starkey said was racist, then so are we all."
David Starkey is demonizing the whole of black community ..
by reader1 on Sun Aug 14, 2011 11:42 AM PDT... for action of a few Afro-Caribbean looters . If not black, he would have used the same principles to demonize any non-indigenous community for action of a tiny minority from that community - including the tiny Iranian community. He is a xenophobic historian of exceptional talent.
