The Iranian people by their massive presence in the election won on many fronts:
1. Internationally, no aggressor can now dream about an Iran attack when millions of brave Iranians showed their solidarity by standing behind a leader who defended their rights. No dreamer can now hope for a division of Iranian people, or hope to create a wedge between people and their overwhelmingly elected government.
2. Completely opposite to what some people feared, now US-Iran rapprochement will speed up under re-election of Ahmadinejad! Now that US can not continue with a futile dream of a leader that they could possibly push around, US HAS TO proceed quickly with a new friendly Iran policy.
3. Internally, the security felt against foreign threats translated into a more open democracy. The debates opened gates that no one can close again. As a result, the student will be charged up for months and even years to come, and the fracture that was introduced in the well protected factionalism inside Iran will only grow deeper. This is the start of a new phase of maturation of Iranian democracy, and it can only get better from here on!
This was a fantastic victory for Iranians. Congratulations to all participants who frustrated the designs of ill-wishers.
PS. With both camps announcing a "quick" and early win, it is now clear who the real "liar" is :-)
PPS. To find out about real sore losers though, you'll have to wait until tomorrow.

by Niloufar Parsi on Wed Jun 17, 2009 11:26 AM PDTpoint was that people who cannot perform simple algebra cannot be trusted to run fair elections - or a country for that matter. it is not the size of the discrepancy - it is the very fact that their numbers do not add up. it looks like they put figures together and released in a hurry without double checking whether they tallied. i have also calculated the percentages. will check if they are any different from captain's, but i doubt it as all his figures were the same as yours as you made me check! :)
Souri
by Niloufar Parsi on Wed Jun 17, 2009 11:14 AM PDTof course we do not have the full facts. none of us do. and i am aware of a relatively recent trend that can be called the 'tyranny of the bourgeoisie'. elections that do not go the way the middle class wants them to go can be challenged in a democratic guise, but actually quite anti-democratic in essence. this was the case in recent years in ukraine and thailand. the bourgeoisie mobilise more easily, and have the resources to challenge election results rather unfairly, one can say.
however, what is striking about the case in iran is precisely the points that irandokht has raised. the style of the elections, the actions of the leader, the mobilisation of the military and the ever-so-fascistic actions of the basiji thugs all combined give concrete legitimacy to the mass protests and the demands of the opposition.
at this stage, it is almost irrelevant how the vote actually went. what has followed has negated the legitimacy of the system beyond repair and something drastic Needs to happen - a thorough democratisation of the system is needed. in this atmosphere, emotional outbursts are inevitable.
but it is not the protesters who have 'lost their heads'. quite the opposite: it is the islamic regime that needs its head examined.
so i agree with jaleh's conclusion that iranians have won big, but for different reasons than the 'election' of AN.

I don't think that AN has as much support as I previously believed he could have. I have seen the footage of the rallies and the only pictures that showed AN's supporters were clearly photoshopped. He promised a lot 4 years ago and he didn't deliver. That's why I doubt that his support would be more than 4 yrs ago! Handing out money to some of the people who request it by letter, one at a time is not a great way to accumulate support.
I truly support the uprising of the Iranians especially after seeing the brutality they faced and hearing about the arrests, the injured and the murders.
Even if they had managed to count 40+ million handwritten votes in less than 4 hours and even if AN had the majority of the votes, the way Khamenei handled the situation, the way AN called millions of people khar o khas and arazel obash, and the brutality they unleashed on the people who were just marching on the streets have caused many to support the voters and believe there has been fraud.

by Anonymous111 on Wed Jun 17, 2009 09:35 AM PDTJaleho,
I hope you realize (doubt it – not smart enough) that you’re going down with the sinking ship that is the IRI. This election was the seminal moment in IRI’s history when people shed their fears of this murderous monster that you support. And just like in 1953, this spells the end of the Islamic Republic. It may take some time, but the image of IRI as some sort of an all powerful, invincible beast has been erased. The Iranian population has now demonstrated and confirmed that the IRI is just another gun-toting petty dictatorship that can be removed by the people.
So, you can be here and other sites, under various registered and anonymous names, posting forged (and quite laughable) numbers and statistics supplied to you by your IRI bosses, but know this: NO ONE GIVES A S**T about your propaganda anymore. It’s over sister, finish, done!!!! Actually, if I were you, I would start filling out an asylum application in the U.S. ASAP…you know how backed up the U.S. immigration services are these days. Otherwise, you should be looking for a good lawyer inside Iran (if you ever return – because chickens like you don’t have the courage to put their money where their mouths are).
Peace!!!
Dear Niloufar,
by Jaleho on Wed Jun 17, 2009 09:17 AM PDTI got exactly those results when I checkd them. As I said, I think these should be reported for correction purpose anyway. But, there's really nothing "fishy" about having a 1 vote off (either in original count or translation) in a couple of million votes counted. The one item that was bad was Hormozgan, which as I explained seesm to be entirely a typo.
Captain Ayhab did not calculate those percentages, he copied it from somewhere , of course I am assuming that he does know how to calculate a simple percentage, otherwise his percentage would have reflected the wrong figure :-) So, his calculated percentage for the Hormozgan which is the only "fishy" reflects the correct result, not the typo that also exist in his total.
I don't know what's "fishy" in a figure that really just would have increased the % of both candidates, except for a sloppy copying of figures, do you? I am not sure if even machines in elections wouldn't have that type of error. I think we should cry foul only when there is compelling evidence for doing so. Otherwise, we can just state our own convictions like Minadavar just did, not based on any evidence.

eye witness account of vote rigging
by NiloufarParsi (not verified) on Wed Jun 17, 2009 02:06 AM PDTمن یکی از یک میلیون مجری انتخابات هستم که حسابی سر کار گذاشته شدیم

Dear Niloufar, good point again!
by Jaleho on Tue Jun 16, 2009 07:44 PM PDTI copied those numbers from Payvand.com which stated they are from interior ministry. I don't know where in the transition to that Payvand site the translation from Farsi to English has happened, and if totals has been translated or individual number translated and then totals added later.
After looking at your note I checked those totals, and isfahan, khorasan, Kohkilouye, & kurdistan that you mentioned are off by 1, 9, 681, 1, respectively. (double check, I am a bit sleepy). The Hormozgan total which as you mentioned seems to be the only large discrepancy, is reported as 843024 vs. 743024. My guess is that somewhere "haft" and "hasht" has been mixed up, but the result didn't get affected. The reason that I say so is this:
If you look at Captain Ayhab's data, which has all the data AND respective percentages, he reports the percentage of 65% for Ahmadinejad in Hormozgan which is based on the correct total of 743024. Whereas if you take the mistaken total of 843024, then Ahmadinejad's percentage comes up to 57.2%. I seems that Captain's source has correct percentages, and the total written is just a typo as you thought.
I think though that this should be reported to make any discrepancy corrected, since if there are tpos in the totals, one doesn't feel comfortable that there aren't typos in the individual's data, which you must have to feel comfortable with the whole data.

Dear Jaleho
by minadadvar on Tue Jun 16, 2009 05:09 PM PDTThere is no need for name calling. I do not want to waste my time trying to reason with you. Because your logic is the logic of "the chicken has one leg". If my impression of you makes me an idiot, so be it. Good Luck.
