The Iranian people by their massive presence in the election won on many fronts:
1. Internationally, no aggressor can now dream about an Iran attack when millions of brave Iranians showed their solidarity by standing behind a leader who defended their rights. No dreamer can now hope for a division of Iranian people, or hope to create a wedge between people and their overwhelmingly elected government.
2. Completely opposite to what some people feared, now US-Iran rapprochement will speed up under re-election of Ahmadinejad! Now that US can not continue with a futile dream of a leader that they could possibly push around, US HAS TO proceed quickly with a new friendly Iran policy.
3. Internally, the security felt against foreign threats translated into a more open democracy. The debates opened gates that no one can close again. As a result, the student will be charged up for months and even years to come, and the fracture that was introduced in the well protected factionalism inside Iran will only grow deeper. This is the start of a new phase of maturation of Iranian democracy, and it can only get better from here on!
This was a fantastic victory for Iranians. Congratulations to all participants who frustrated the designs of ill-wishers.
PS. With both camps announcing a "quick" and early win, it is now clear who the real "liar" is :-)
PPS. To find out about real sore losers though, you'll have to wait until tomorrow.

khaleh Mosheh, I gave up TEACHING CAPTAIN MATH
by Jaleho on Sat Jun 13, 2009 04:24 PM PDTin a previous math blog we had, since he showed no desire or grace to learn, or admit lack of knowledge when he only has a surface knowledge in what he claims he teaches! He seems to know nothing about ordinary least square regression analysis in this particular instance. Furthermore, I refuse to engage directly with a person with a proven "chaleh meydooni" tongue.
Why don't you ask your local college teachers what is the difference between aggregated vs. incremental data? That is, if you really want to learn what you go around and qoute by mistake.

Graph
by capt_ayhab on Sat Jun 13, 2009 12:32 PM PDTIn a random distribution such as vote count data points must be RANDOMLY disbursed on either side of the regression line[the straight line], with reasonable random variations.
This graph indicates that data were pre-determined and not random. In another words, Ahmadinajad MUST have won every single snap-shot[votes in millions] of data[votes] with same percentage, in order for the data points to be so astonishingly close to regression line.
In short: data are NOT random.

Big Sad Day for the people of Iran
by MEHRNAZ SHAHABI on Sat Jun 13, 2009 12:31 PM PDTFor those who claim there have been no fraud (or large scale fraud) - before many many complaints and claims of fraud have been investigated - they are kidding themselves, if not underestimating the intelligence of other people.
I have always defended Iran's soverignty against external intervention or attack, this betrays Iran's sovereignty by stealing the voice of the people, whilst unashamedly boasting the large turn out.
Are all those demonstrating now in the streets of Tehran, traitors or foreign agents?

since you seem to be too impressed by that linear graph, could you explain its importance in making a conclusion to the rest of us who don't understand math and statistics like yourself?
Were we supposed to expect an exponential graph in a 7 point graph of an aggregate vote count for example instead of a linear one? Is there a problem with having a non-zero y-intercept? Did you check the incrementally increased data vs. the aggregate data? Did they fit as you expected them? What would you expect?
If you didn't, could you please stop repeating something that you clearly don't understand like a parrot? They way it was meant for you to parrot a completely meaningless propaganda?
PS: the same logic applies to the IRI "selection crisis"

by minadadvar on Sat Jun 13, 2009 11:18 AM PDTThis was a pseudo-election, with pseudo-candidates and a pseudo-result. Students have been imprisoned/tortured by IRI for years. With all due respect, I don't believe Ahmadinejad's pseudo-victory will mobolize them. Justice/freedom/equality/civility and secularism have been the motivation behind their conviction for years. And based on what I saw they seem willing to continue the fight until they are victorious.
P.S.I have worked with torture survivors of this regime, many of them students.

by Q on Sat Jun 13, 2009 11:11 AM PDTI do respect your choice not to vote and my post was not about you, rather about the boycott movement. For those people it was not a personal decision like yours but a political move which has now made them irrelevant.
You are also correct that those who participated are responsible for the results. They would be responsible to expose and correct any fraud perpeterated in their name. The boycotters are not part of this, and will not be a part of any resolution either.
Dear self-Admitted "pro AIPAC" Fred, while you were too busy making up conspiracy theories and name calling, you missed the big picture in my analysis. Khomeini did know how to communicate accross classes, and so do his closest ideological followers, including Ahmadinejad.
