I understand the bitterness that exists between us and the supporters of GM. This is my attempt to explain our positions and goals to those who lost in the election or others. I will try to have an open mind and to respect the boundaries of a civil discussion. I am willing to change my position if proved wrong, but nevertheless, will give your arguement my full attention. However, certain principles should be respected in this thread if you wish to participate in this discussion.

1- Iran's integrity and sovereignty is not up for discussion.

2- Islam and religion should be respected in this discussion

Everything else is fair game. Lets start by a series of short answers and questions and see where that leads us.  Anyone can join the discussion at anytime whether pro or against.

Please be civil in your discussion.

1-Can an Iranian in Iran coming from a muslim background openly renounce their belief in Islam if they so choose?

2-Do Iranians have the right to read, think, watch, wear, eat, and drink what they want?

3-Is a woman guaranteed equal rights to a man in the Islamic Republic?

4-Do All Iranians have the right to peacefully express their opposition?

5-Do All Iranians have equal rights, regardless of their relgious beliefs or lack thereof, under the Islamic Republic?

6-Is it illegal to have political prisoners in Iran?

7-Is it illegal for prisoners be tortured and/or raped?

8-Do prisoners have the right to a defense lawyer and a public open trial in which they can defend themselves?

9-If the answer to the above questions is yes, what has Mr Ahmadinejad done to guarantee these rights? What steps has he taken to free political prisoners and guarantee any of those arrested access to lawyers and open fair trial? Why has he not launched a full scale investigations into violence, torture, rape, detention without trial and representation against unarmed peaceful protestors?

10-If the answer to any of the above questios is no, what penalty are Iranians subject to for peacefully opposing the Islamic Republic , and how can Mr Ahmadinejad (and you)support such a system?

11-Does Mr. Ahmadinejad's open denial of the Holocaust, a historical fact well documented in which millions of Jews dies, serve the national interests of Iran?

12-How many newspapers have been closed down under Mr. Ahmadinejad, and what steps has he taken to protect a free press, in which opposition writers are allowed to write?

13-After the June election and mass opposition protests, Mr. Khamenei openly declared war on the people of Iran in the Friday prayers, banning any protests, even peaceful ones. Does Mr. Ahmadinejad defend this declaration?

I have a very very very long list of questions, as do the parents and children of many dead and imprisoned people whose only crime is to want a better future. But perhaps you could start by answering the above sincerely.

That would be decent of you.

Why AN is so much Kissing the rear end of Iraqi, when these people killed more 600K Iranian and destroyed our country?

Having a friendly relationship with Iraq is critical to Iran security concerns. Iraq , with its shia majority, is on its way to become Iran's strongest ally in the region. Both our nations can benefit greatly from one another in all aspect of cooperations. Why punish them and keep the hatred when we can become allies? Saddam paid  for its crimes and was executed by shia militias supported by Iran.

Why Mahmood and company gave up majorty of the Caspian Sea to Russia?

Are you sure? As far as i know, every country is fighting for a bigger share and they argue ( except Iran ) that the sea should be divided based on how long each country shorelines are. It is somehow a fair concept, but it will be against Iran interest since we have the shortest shorelines. However, the seabed borders has not been determined yet and thats where an estimated 2-5 percent of worlds total oil reserves are located. You probabely didn't know that Azerbaijan asked an American company to start drilling off its shores for oil last year. This caused Iran's Sepah to interfere with the drilling and halting their operation. I don't see Iran winning any support for its share of the sea bed, though. Anything more than %14 is a good deal in my mind. Iran is aiming for %20. Lets see what happens.

Why are you buring American Flag and constnatly call Death to America? How do you feel, if American do the same to Iran and Iranian Flag. If you have a problem with American Goverment, Burning america's flag and death to America will point to people.

I agree with you in principle on this issue. It serves no one and it bears no result to burn American flags on our street. However, iranian conservative right wings do it to show their anger at the american foreign policies in the middle east.

1) Overall I like Dr Ahmadi-Nejad's management style. My concern is that he seems to have little regards for peoples vote and has called them Khaso-khashak. My other concern with Dr Ahmadi Nejad highly popular government is that there are suspiciouns of unfair paly during th June 2009 election. Overall however I think his ministerial appointments are competent.

2)In beefing up an insidious pro-IRI fake blog how many sock puppets are the optimum numbers to use?

//iranian.com/main/blog/q/are-you-sockpuppet

3)DO you have a spreadsheet that you record the new e-mail addresses, usernames and password? It certainly becoming a most complex system of sock puppetery to administer. I am sure with your significant experience in this field you can be given a ministerial position in Dr Ahmadi-Nejad's government.

No Fear,

Here is an advice to you and Mr. AN, Khamenai.

Remember, Nothing will last forever. Heavon and Hell is right here on this world. One day, you will be responsbile for your acts. Please read the history, all those whom killed and destroyed?

the concept of a single person knows more than everyone else. You can call that person Rahbar, King, Persident or anything between. It doesn't create anything more than disruction.

Now My questions to you:

 1. Why AN is so much Kissing the rear end of Iraqi, when these people killed more 600K Iranian and destroyed our country?

2. Why Mahmood and company against Israil, when Israil has not killed a single Iranian in last 100 years?

3. Why Mahmood and company gave up majorty of the Caspian Sea to Russia?

4. Why are you buring American Flag and constnatly call Death to America? How do you feel, if American do the same to Iran and Iranian Flag. If you have a problem with American Goverment, Burning america's flag and death to America will point to people.

5. Why your regim is putting 30 additional people to death? What are you trying to do?

6. Why are you killing Sunni, Kurds, Arabs, Turks and others. Are you planing to become Sudan?

7. Why majorty of Educated Iranian are leaving Iran? They are not even looking back. 80% of Sharif Graduate leave the country, 85% of Medical Grad and etc.

Thank you for being civil in your discussion. I just want to clarify to you that I do not think the best way forward for Iran's future is through Ahmadinejad or even the Reformers. Having lived in Iran all my life and travelled and visited/ worked in different cultures, I have come to the conclusion that separation of politics from religion is the best way forward. Fighting for a religion is not modern thinking, I do not mean to insult anybody, am being honest. I will exit the discussion at this point.

Had it not been my long night duty, I would not have engaged with this blog!   You took sophistry to quite an expert level, No Fear!  Now that you have comprehensively covered the power structure in Iran (!) could you just elaborate a bit about the Rahbar, Sepah Pasdaran and its functions and reach, the person of Ahmadi-Nedjad, about Mesbah Yazdi, Shariatmadari, Ahmad Khatami, ... etc?  Where do you stand in all this?  You did not say who the "We" that you referred to was.

Sorry to say that, but you should do more research on the Justice Shares!  This is not a loan and together with hadafmand kardan-e yaaraaneh-ha is a source of much controversy.  Do you know why they are controversial?

I want to know how a dedicated supporter of Ahmadi-Nedjad views things and how much he cares to know.

Absolutely. This is what i want as well. We have more in common than you realize. I understand your anger for the injustice when you lose a family member ( or more ) defending our beloved Iran and Islam. Now, years after the war, we still live in poverty and injustice in a society corrupted by opportunistic politician who live in billion dollars mansions while their children are living aboard driving german vehicles. Please then tell us of the underlying power struggle.  Tell us who you are referring to when you say We, and tell us who are the irresponsible and corrupt religious entities and politicians you are trying to eliminate.  Please explain that structure to us and name at least some names and some groups and their relationships.

Currently there are more than 200 political parties in Iran, but i will keep my take on the major associations ( power brokers, shot callers as you may put it ).

IR main power brokers are;

1- Alliance of builders of islamic republic ( very powerful ).

Notable   politicians are Rafsanjani, Larijani , Nabavi and others. They influence the Judiciary and the parliament through the likes of Larijani ( both brothers ). Note how the Judiciary creates  controversies when Ahmadinejad is overseas, i wonder who calls the shots here.

This group does include the likes of Ghalibof ( current mayor ) and Tehrans former mayor ( His name has escaped my mind , the one who planted pot plants all over the city ). The latter was the main strategist  for the reformist victory during khatami and he was the main strategist for Karroubi during the election as well. Note his strong affiliation with the alliance of builders a party established and headed by no one but the one and only Hashemi Rafsanjani.

Do you still want to know how far the rabbit hole goes?

Interestingly, Ahmadinejad did belong to this group before when they were newly established and promoting proper management policies and supporting young educated managers. However, Ahmadinejad broke off with them before he became a candidate and raised eyebrows when he accused many of them for corruption. The alliance entered the election race with Larijani and lost.

2- Majmae Rohanione Mobarez , The reformists with student organizations, Daaftare tahkime vahdat, writer association and others.

I grouped these associations together since their vague policies are similar and they have recently came out in support of one another. Notable politicians are; Mousavi, Khatami, Mohtashami and others.

This group lacks leadership and is incapable to take initiatives in Iran's tough political power struggle. They have aligned themselves numerous times with the " alliance of builders " headed by Rafsanjani during election and came out strongly to vote for Rafsanjani in the election after Khatami term was over( They lost as well ).

They advocate social justice and a civil society and they are traditionally leftist in their economical policies ( a stark contrast to the alliance of builder's world bank's road map for economy) . But they suffer from inconsistency and were easily outplayed by pretty much all the other associations , specially the conservatives. The results of their nuclear negotiations with the west had disastrous results for Iran ( depends how you look at it , If you are happy with 3 sentrifuses for research only purposes, then they did admirably ). They did allow better press freedom and had 7 newspapers with opposition views published during their era. Aside from a few baby steps towards a civil society, this group has not much to show after 8 years of their administration.

3- The conservatives, The cambatant clergy association, The Islamic Coalition Party and so on.

Notable politicians; Asgar oladi, Mahdavi kani, Sharatmadari and others. This group has lost its strong public support and most of their followers are with Ahmadinejad now. However, this group can influences the leader. They have lost most of their political power within the establishment and i believe their power is declining on a daily basis. Even now, their coalition is loosely held together. None of their candidates have won any notable victory in the last decades.

The Islamic coalition party headed by Asgar oladi ( still powerful because they represent the powerful Bazaar ) are showing signs that they might break off the coalition and join the "Alliance of builders" .I am almost certain they will have a common candidate in the next election. Ahmadinejad taxation policy has greatly angered this group and they showed their power by going on strike and shutting down the bazaar, effectively forcing the administration to soften its stand and partially give in to their demand. (It was refreshingly funny how the opposition aboard called their action defending democracy against the dictatorship of ahmadinejad! )

Loose alliances have been formed and forged between this group and all other groups including Ahmadinejad administration on some occassions for short term political gains, passing a bill in parliament etc. This does not mean they are aligned inherently.

Baha'is are being targeted and persecuted solely because of their religious beliefs, not because they"preach their religion to a fellow iranian muslim " as you mentioned.

Again, You are right in your arguement and there is nothing i could say that justifies the actions against Baha'is. But please look at my angle. I am saying that Ahmadinejad is not involved ( atleast directly ) to what is happening to the Baha'is. I told you this falls under the Judiciary and the Islamic laws. Even you know about this since you have provided an excellent proof for my point in one of your links, provided below. Please read the whole letter as i have read all the links that you have provided.

You are doing an excellent job of whitewashing on behalf of Ahmaginejad,

Why don't you go and do some research and tell us how exactly does this work. Does a bahai need to be preaching his faith to a moslim and then be subjected to persecution? I don't think it even has to go as far as having them persecuted. These poor fellows are being deprived of their basic rights to higher education and employemnet, and that is debiltating enough. Would you not say so? (  I understand if you would not, believe me)

Did AN really seem like he did not how to answer that question? REALLY? Difficult question??? Saying that The jews have moses as their prophet and christians have jesus and the muslims have prophet mohammad and Who is The bahai's prophet, basically claiming that their beliefs and faith is baseless and without any merit!  To you indicated of somoene who has not done adequate research on this???  Oh, he cared about the issue. This is a man who know darn well how he feels about this particular minority and maybe he'd extend it to others as well. who knows!

No Fear

by No Fear on

Why my fellow Baha'i country men/women are harassed/imprisoned/ persecuted ?

I personally don't have any problems with anyones religion. I have also never stated that Ahmadinejad's administration is the best one in Iran history. I have a Baha'i friend who has always stated Baha'i as his religion on any form or document. He has NOT been persecuted so far. I am Not saying the situation is ideal for them, but my understanding is that only those who preach their religion to a fellow iranian muslim get persecuted. Isn't this true that NO Baha'i is allowed to preach to a fellow Iranian? ( My fellow baha'i friend told me so ).

I watched the videos posted by another poster about how Ahmadinejad refrained from directly answering the question. Watch the video again, he doesn't have a clue on how to answer this question. This does NOT look like a person who has done research in this area and came to his own conclusions. But what a difficult question regardless. How is he supposed to answer that ? he is not afraid of controversies and almost always speaks his mind. His reply to the question seems like he doesn't care about the issue, but at the same time, has to be careful with such a sensitive matter.

Even though the biggest and holiest Baha'i convention is in Israel, Baha'i followers are never branded as traitors in Iran.  It is the position of the religious right that is making their life difficult everyday. Baha'is are muslims same and Iranians too. No one has the authority to claim some are more muslim than others.

The only way that i can see improvement in this situation is either a high religious margae taglid issues a statement in their favor ( very unlikely ) or the gradual seperation of discriminatory religious laws from our politics.

Can you please tell me if the persecution of Baha'is has been intensified or not, recently?  When was the darkest era of persecution? Who was the head of dowlat?

I can assure you that many in sepah think the same way. We do know that Judiciary and its own police ( Dadsetani ) might have a different view here.

He is a fascist, together with his other bearded morons in his picture, holding up pictures of a fool that pays them well for women beating in the streets. And as you can read, he takes great pride in it and has practised alot with his excuses and lies.

Stop wasting your time on this moron, he obviously is not here "to change his mind", he is here to paint a nicer picture of what him and his SS brownshirts have done in Iran the last couple of months. His answers are taken straight from the regimes press releases, if you happen to read PressTV, Mehr and Farsnews. By asking this fool more questions, you are acutally validating his false reality of Iran today.

The sad part is, that one day when we get a democratic secular Iran, goat herding dehati badbakhts like him will listen to whatever a fanatical cleric will say and roam the street protesting again just like they did under the Shah, complaining about "Islamic discrimination and political torture" only to get in power and do the exact same things they cried wolf over. Islam first, then Iran as they say themselves.

Vatan foroshe kesafat. I wish one day him and his friends can pack their bags and create a great anti-Zionist fighting force and their Islamic paradise in Sudan where they belong, and leave the rest of us alone.
