I request again that the goldfish post from Anonymous which I flagged yesterday be deleted. This post calls Darius Kadivar a Ziopig. That is unacceptable from ANYONE at ANY TIME to ANYONE but especially to Darius who is a very prominent member of our community from a goldfish.

The post also begins "Forget him" and then says he lost his mind. At first this might seem like a joke but it's not.  It is offensive enough coming from anyone but from some coward hiding behind the PRIVILEGE of anonymity

It is EXACTLY these kinds of goldfish who make people want to get rid of all of them. The whole goldfish controversy would be solved if you would just delete this kind of fish.

DK is one of the few people here who uses his own identity. He has to be harrassed by this coward? This is a very extreme situation which proves the point of all the other complaints.

Spelling and Cease Fire dk/q

2) I want to make a couple of comments on what I saw happening here at the start and end, if I sound like a school marm and you don't like me that shouldn't make much difference, hate is popular here these days.

Q wrote the blog about cease fire, about peace. It is very sad that has become an on-gong bitter feud between two of the most high-profile members of the blogging community and a skillful one too because boy you two can write, and this could go on FOREVER. I believe Q began with a brief statement of his position at the beginning of the blog because people are always "demanding" he articulate it clearly and so he tried to. I believe he did it in good faith to show that there are many possible sides but we should all want peace, and I think the intention of his doing it has been completely misunderstood. I think it has also been missed that he spoke of reflexive extreme reactions against Israel and Zionists as being equally harmful as those against the supporters of the Palestinians.

The articulation of the postiion at the begining already being a calculated risk, Q did make a mistake in the use of language when he said that anti-IRI Iranians were ignorant, prejudiced and anti-Islamist. It is a legitimate viewpoint, myself if I wished to articulate it would have said something like:. "Some Iranians hereare uninformed of the full situation, and while they may not realize it, harbor anti-Islamic biases..." etc., espeicially being we are trying to communicate here among dedicated people in a close community rather than your average Joe (or aveerage Ahmad...). Like Q siad once on a moderation blog, the real battles are fought out amongst us on the blogs, the articles are more for the general (and VAST) readership).  Predictablye Q's characterization made Darius see red, and that is why he thought Q was calling him an asshole (bad word choice Q in a blog on cease fire...). However Darius is very well-schooled in hermeneutics and the sentence obviously did not say that .

Well, if nothing else at least that got settled!  Asshole did not mean all anti-IRI Iraninas.

What else is being settled here? This whole exchange is getting painful to watch and I doubt I'm the only one who feels this way. The wounds are very deep, the current stances on Is/Pal correspond as you know to stances that brought real wars and tortures and deaths to people's friends and families not long ago, not to mention what is happening today in IRI. This is an old festering sore and the Gaza situation is making it gangrenous. Myself personally I would rather you cease fire or cease blog before the gangrene gets so bad amputation is necessary. The two of you are two brilliant. This can go on forever, with each of you finding more nuanced and subtle ways of battling...but to what end?

My own view is that the best thing that could be gotten out of this blog at this time is an understanding of how the failure to communicate began from the start and laid the foundations for things to only get ugly, how there were good intentions there and how things could be improved in the future.

Beyond this, all these who knows more etymologies and what language can I pull out of my hat next to ostracize or mreo include whoever and what not...it's just gangrene LITE.

My personal  preference:  cease fire or cease blog.

As for Kadivar it also derives from a "Kingly" definition and means "Kad Khoda" Or Land Lord !

Darius is the name my parents gave me in tribute to two people they admired most:  Darius Milhaud a French Jewish Composer and the Greatest Persian King : Darius The Great as he was known to all by the Father of History Herodotus. And it is this spelling I use in my english conversations and my French and American Passports because it corresponds to how all English/French/Francophone/Anglo Saxon Encyclopedias use to refer to that MAJESTIC KING and TALENTED MUSICIAN. Otherwise I could well use Khateh Meekhi or Hebrew for each one. Its a question of Cosmopolitanism you see But that I'm afraid is something too sophisticated for people like you to understand. As For Dariush it is the way I am called by my friends and family.

actually, it seems you are a bit ignorant of the correct spelling of the Shahname character. It's not "Kioumarz" but "Keyumars" as translated in literature.

So, let me know after you get some more studying done. At that point, you may come to the conclusion that Iranians do not use the latin alphabet and there are no rules for translating personal names. This why "Qumars" is a common spelling, in fact more respectful to the original as it has a chance of being pronounced more correctly.

Qumars is Spelled Kioumarz with a "K" like in Kia ( from which it derives in the Indo European Language and phonetics) which means "Crown" in ancient Persian. Like in "Kiarostami", Get it ? I know this first hand for my late father Khoda Biamorz first name was Kioumarz. But well you are Perfectly Free to Use "Q" after all its a question of "Taste". There will be a cease fire when the military capability and infra structure of Hamas is taken out so that no more missiles are sent into Israeli territory to kill Israeli civilians. Period.

The truth is

It was all my fault and I apologize for my silly reaction. I was tired of some childish reactions here to events which are crimes against humanity and I found DK's comment and his clip very funny (as I usually do).

I have respect for Q's ideas, as he really believes on what he says and defends them eloquently. 

He has already denied any support to IRI and it sufficies to me. There are some of his standings that I do not share as it should inversely be the case.

I defended SCE campaign when David and SCE were criticized for not speaking of the human rights activists, jailed students and journalist in Iran and only working for the rights of the juvenile offenders (which some people called chaaghoo-kesh). There were a group of critics who would accuse them on having an agenda, because there were more important people to fight for and speak of, than the group SCE was concentrating on.

Just like I have to defend the ones who speak of human rights violations and war crimes in Gaza when some are accusing us to have an agenda since we're concentrating on that instead of IRI crimes.

I defended SCE then, and I am defending the ones who are speaking up now too. My conscience is clear because I don't jump ship and I don't side with power. 

Now if you tell jokes when you're stressed, that's fine, but shouldn't it also be ok if I lose my sense of humor when stressed? People aren't the same no matter how many links of Satrapi you copy/paste here to provide proof. 

We're all expressing our opinions and ourfeelings, some are also making the extra effort of pointing fingers towards the rest to make ridiculous accusations, and classify "real patriots" vs "apologists" based on their views of the Gaza massacre.

Apart from that my advice to you would be to  take a few steps out of the debate and look at the Global Picture and the Huge Challenges that we are going to be faced with in the advent of this local Gaza Crisis.

In the face of this ideological vaccum ANY IDIOT can offer an Alternative without thinking of the consenquences and his or her responsability . and as a result be hailed as a genius just Like Khomeiny, Lenin or Stalin or Hitler who thought that Evil was JUST ON ONE SIDE !.

Like David ET ( who was also a good cyber Friend of yours l believe) I do not endorse this Disastrous Military Operation and as an Outsider to this conflict between two people I refuse to target one People as entirely responsible. The Israelis are accountable for any crime commited during this Operation and if ever this leads to a Tribunal to decide on the responsabilities of those involved in any unjustified killings of civilians if you please like the La Hague Tribunal for Ex Yougoslavia which has brought War Criminals like Milosevitch or Karachik to trial, I will trust the decision of such a recognized and impartial Tribunal.

Apart from that I repeat that I do not oppose a cease Fire but I do not consider the HAMAS, its NIHILIST ideology or its leaders as representative of the Palestinian People in any way. They are supported by Iran's clerical regime and as such I DO NOT consider them or their cause as an Ally of the Iranian people nor is their plight a priority to the cause of Democracy in IRan.

Especially after hearing about the deadly attacks on UN, Red Cross and humanitarian aids by Israeli tanks in Gaza killing and injuring aid workers, who can possibly see humor when discussing a cease fire...
