بسیاری از نسل بچه های جنگ به مرجع دلیر و نازک بین و صافی دل و تیزهوش و نکته سنج و عدالت خواه و مردم دوست و حق نگر تازه درگذشته، حضرت آیت الله العظمی منتظری، عذرخواهی ها بدهکارند. من از همان نسلم. سال غم انگیز 67 بود و خاتمه جنگ و بازگشت ما به شهرها و ماجرای جگرسوز اعدام های گروهی زندانیان سیاسی در زندان ها و مکاتبات رمزگونه نفر دوم انقلاب با رهبری آن. نامه ها را که دست به دست می گشت می خواندیم و می کوشیدیم حقیقت را از میان سطرهای آن ها دریابیم>>>

جنبش مردمی ایران كه دارد روز به روز به انقلاب شبیه تر میشود و بر امید همهٌ آزادیخواهان میافزاید تداومی پیدا كرده كه نشان میدهد با تشر حكومت اسلامی متوقف نخواهد شد و اگر بتواند تحولی را كه لازم است پیدا كند، در تغییر نظام سیاسی مملكت توفیق حاصل خواهد نمود. در این میان چنان كه منطقی است، صحبت از رهبری هم به میان آمده است. میبینیم بسیاری هم میگویند و بحق هم میگویند كه به وجود رهبر نیاز هست و البته نامهایی هم مطرح شده كه میشناسیم و متأسفانه به هیچكدامشان هم اطمینان نداریم>>>

در این مجال به شرایط تکوین دو عامل مهم دگرگونی اجتماعی یعنی انقلاب و اصلاح خواهم پرداخت و به ترجیح دانشی و ارزشی اصلاح بر انقلاب انگشت خواهم نهاد. اصولاً در تاریخ بشر اصلاح قاعده و انقلاب استثناست. بعلاوه، موفقیت انقلاب ها در نیل به آرمانهایشان نیز در مجموع کمتر از اصلاحات بوده است. البته چنانکه خواهیم دید هنگامی که اصلاح با بن بست مواجه شود شرایط برای انقلاب فراهم می گردد و آن علامت "کاما" در تیتر این مقاله یک کلمه به جلو خواهد جهید. به قول تروتسکی، انقلاب وقتی صورت می گیرد که هیچ راه دیگری برای مردم باقی نمانده باشد>>>

Last Sunday evening I heard the sad and heartbreaking news about Aydin Salek. Aydin died in the earlier hours of Sunday December 13th, one day short of his 18th birthday. I met Aydin few years ago in one of the community meetings for addressing human rights violations in Iran. Aydin and his mother were introduced as a family that came recently to Southern California. Aydin’s mother an architect by training, working on her PHD and His father, a dentist reunited with them only 4 months ago after finally obtaining exit permit to leave Iran>>>

گاهی اوقات پروانه های نشسته به روی نوک انگشتانم را به سمت پایین دست رودخانه ام پرت می کنم تا شاید دست از سرم بردارند. کمی خیس بشوند تا طعم ماهی شدن را بچشند. تکه پرهای یاس سفیدم را بو می کشم تا بوی تنهایی را که در جان و دلم نشسته را از دلم دور کنم. فانوس های پر نور را از سقف آویزان می کنم تا بی هیچ ترس و واهمه ای سایه هایی که به خانه ام هجوم آورده اند را از در خانه ام به بیرون بیاندازم. >>>

Neda Agha-Soltan’s death raised questions – obvious ones, such as how even a brutal regime could be so brutal. But others, too – how many of the hundreds of thousands who have watched her last moments did so more than once? Is it voyeurism? At what point does it become entertainment? And given that Ms Agha-Soltan signed no release form, is it right that footage of her death was posted on YouTube in the first place? Is it not enough to know that someone has been killed? Do we have to see it? >>>

When, more than ten years ago, we founded the Alliance for Defense of Human Rights in Iran (ADHRI) in Washington, D.C., after the serial murders of 1998, more than 20 people began attending the meetings. At the beginning, there were constructive discussions. The first event and demonstration in DC took place two decades after the Revolution sponsored by the Alliance. They were both timely and successful in drawing attention to the abuse of human rights in Iran. Until that time, everyone was scared or frightened to talk, let alone organize an event. But soon enough, like many other organizations, ADHR became political; each group trying to push their own agenda>>>

The other night Becky and I arrived at a large gathering of family and friends. Our generous guest, Mrs. Nicey had obviously spent a good deal of time meticulously preparing for this occasion, cleaning, cooking, and decorating. Her recently remodeled home was tastefully painted and painfully overfurnished with the usual suspectsin the mix, French, Qajar and modern American articles. As soon as we arrived Mrs. Nicey rushed to greet us. She looked rather frazzled though. It must have been the stress of all the hard work of arranging the perfect party. She shook hands and accepted the bottle of wine>>>

به نظر می‌رسد که در واکنش به مقاومت مردم و جنبش سبز، حاکمیت طرح یک تصفیه بزرگ را در آستانه ماه محرم در دستور کار خود قرار داده است. تارنمای «کلمه» وابسته به آقای موسوی هشدار داده که «اتفاقی در پیش است» و زمزمه‌های دستگیری او و خاتمی و کروبی در روزهای اخیر شدت یافته است. ولی دامنه این تصفیه، اگر واقعیت داشته باشد، ظاهرا قرار نیست به آنان ختم شود و ممکن است حتا افرادی مانند هاشمی رفسنجانی را نیز در بر گیرد. تبلیغاتی که این روزها علیه رفسنجانی به راه افتاده می‌تواند به منظور زمینه‌سازی این امر صورت گرفته باشد>>>

While I would agree that the regime has successfully transitioned from a hybrid authoritarian state to one that more closely resembles unmitigated totalitarianism, the regime remains inherently at odds with itself. The paradox of the state, its religious and republican elements, has ultimately hastened increased state fragmentation and lead to a crisis of identity. While the security apparatus of the state has undoubtedly expanded its grip on society, we are increasingly witness to fissures among elite politicians who disagree as to the best course forward>>>
