مفتخرم که جایزه حمایت بین‌المللی از حقوق بشر امسال به من تعلق گرفته است. بیش از سی‌ سال از انقلاب و تاسیس جمهوری اسلامی در ایران گذشته است، اما هنوز هم دادگاه‌های انقلاب بکار خود ادامه داده و با صدور احکام اعدام و زندان‌های طویل المدت، سعی‌ در ارعاب آزادی خواهان دارند. بیش از سی‌ سال از تأسیس جمهوری اسلامی در ایران گذشته است اما هنوز مجازات‌هائی چون سنگسار، قطع دست دزد، به صلیب کشیدن، اعدام مجرمین کمتر از ۱۸ سال در قوانین ایران وجود دارد>>>

پس از اظهارات اولیه آقای موسوی که از سوی بسیاری مورد نقد قرار گرفت، خوش‌بختانه ایشان در موضع‌گیری‌های اخیر خود به صورت واقع‌گرایانه‌ای نه فقط حضور نحله‌ها و گرایش‌های دیگر در درون جنبش سبز را پذیرفته و بلکه آن‌ها را محترم شمرده است. از جمله، آقای موسوی در بیانیه اخیر خود به مناسبت ۱۶ آذر مسایلی را مطرح می‌کند که در پیام‌ها و نوشته‌های پیشین ایشان دیده نمی‌شد، و حاکی از آن است که ایشان ملزومات رهبری یک جنبش توده‌ای را تا حد زیادی پذیرفته است. در این پیام، دیگر از تأکید بر مواضع شخصی خود ایشان، و نفی مواضع کسانی که گونه دیگری می‌اندیشند، خبری نیست. >>>

It’s Sunday and time for the phone call to Iran. I sit in my room and listen through the thin wall. I can tell you exactly what he’ll say, but I don’t know what any of it means. It’s a script. Though I can’t speak the language or translate the dialogue, I have heard him say the same things for so many years that I can repeat it—even mimic the sing-song voice and the pauses between questions and answers. Both my father’s parents are there when he calls, and usually also some brothers and sisters>>>

می دانست که خودکشی کرده و خود را ار پنجره اتاقش به بیرون پرت کرده اما زمان ایستاده بود

تصمیمش را گرفته بود. وقتی شعاع مستقیم آفتاب از پنجره ی سمت چپ اتاق صورتش را خراش داد، نمی خواست که از تختش جدا شود. بیدار بود ولی هنوزچشمانش را باز نکرده بود.می دانست که بیدار است اما اگرچشمانش را باز می کرد باید راست درتیغ آفتاب نگاه می کرد. پس تصمیم گرفت با چشمانی بسته بوبکشد. بوی عطر او از شب پیش هنوز بر بالشش مانده بود. سرش را برگرداند و در بالش فرو کرد وبوکشید تا نفسش بند آمد. جرات کرد و آرام دستش را دزدکی به سمت راست تخت دراز کرد. او رفته بود>>>

شمع های کنار در را به کناری گذاشتم تا برای روشن کردن شان فاصله مابین پنجره و در را کمتر بکنم چون مارسیا قبل از اینکه پرده های یشمی را به کناری بزند یاد آوری کرده بود که کبریتی برای روشن کردن شمع های خانه نداریم پس تا قبل از اینکه تاریکی خانه را بغل بکند دست راستم را به داخل صورت خورشید انداختم تا آتشی برای روشن کردن داشته باشم. کاغذ های دیواری پوسیده را از دیوار کندم تا چیزی برای آتش روشن کردن داشته باشم!>>>

Condemnations of Tehran's abhorrent treatment of its people have been few and far between. But before nuclear diplomacy moves towards a premature ending, the Obama administration must act quickly to reinvigorate its human rights agenda. The United States needs to learn from the mistakes of its recent past and find pragmatic solutions to foreign policy challenges of our time. The ‘war against terror’ is an asymmetric struggle that requires new innovative strategies. This is nothing like the Vietnam, first and second Persian Gulf wars, or in fact any other conventional battlefield-based conflict. Hence, the Obama administration bears the moral responsibility to take existing and emerging threats from rogue regimes and organizations seriously.>>>

I always hear: “He is just another typical Persian guy. He tries so hard to be everything but him self”, or she is just “Another pretentious Persian girl, good by day, nasty by night”… We as young Iranians, as people from different cultural backgrounds, can be unconsciously incompetent in the area of moral identity. The problem is: we distinguish, separate and/or confuse our values. Generally speaking we separate the parameters of social acceptance (of our current environment) from a perceived outline of what is expected from us ethnically, as Iranians>>>

Truman سی و سومین رئیس جمهور آمریکا در 12 آوریل سال 1945 به دنبال مرگ فرانکلین روزولت جانشین وی شد و با اقتدار کامل تا 20 ژانویه سال 1953 از کاخ سفید، ایالات متحده را در سالهای طوفانی پایان جنگ در اقیانوس آرام که با تسلیم ارتش امپراطوری ژاپن به ژنرال مک آرتور پایان یافت و همچنین مقابله با نفوذ روزافزون شوروی در نقاط مخالف جهان، رهبری کرد>>>

The other day I read an article by a long-time friend and fellow activist, Heshmat Tabarsadi. I was struck by the powerful words, the courage that did not mince words, but cut directly to the point. Tabarzadi still lives in Iran, and it is for him and for the thousands of others fighting for freedom for Iran, that we must come out on 16 Azar. I met Heshmat more than a decade ago. We were both growing our student organizations, and we forged an alliance called the United Student Front>>>
