Out of the question?

The nuclear issue has dominated the relationship of the west with Iran over the past several years. The issue is still unresolved and it threatens to get worse and lead to military confrontation. Many Iranians find themselves torn in between siding with either. Siding with the west means siding with an obviously hypocritical unjustifiable position against Iranian sense of nationalism and pride. Siding with the Islamic Republic means siding with a tyrannical regime that is severely oppressing Iranians. What is one to do? I believe there is a solution that all individual Iranians and Iranian organization striving for freedom for Iran and Iranians should campaign for>>>

Green liberation

Congratulations to Iranian women for achieving another milestone, the official inauguration of the first women-only park in Tehran, called Mothers' Paradise Park. Many Westerners might not know that women in Iran have been going to parks for centuries, however in the old days it was called bagh (garden), a place where they would go to have a good time (hal kardan). But, in recent history the word "bagh" has been changed to "park", which originally is an Arabic word pronounced "bark", which means the outer covering of woody stems and roots of trees and shrubs. In another word, it meant a landscaped place where people went to let their donkeys roam freely while they relaxed in the shades>>>

دیوان بلخ

آنچه امروز به نام حکومت شرع و قضاوتهای شرعی در ایران میبینیم همه یادآور همان حکایتهای دیوان بلخ است. از جمله حکایتهای دیوان بلخ اینست که شخصی از آهنگری به دیوان شکایتی میبرد و حاکم شرع که روابط خاصی با آهنگر داشته عذر او را که ادعا میکند شخص دیگری مقصر است می پذیرد و آن دیگری را به دیوان میخواند. کار به همین منوال ادامه پیدا میکند و هر کدام از افرادی که به دیوان احضار میشوند به گونه ئی خود را نجات میدهند و دیگری را مقصر معرفی میکنند. در این میان یکی از همین افراد گناه کار را به گردن مسگری در شوشتر می اندازد که به وعده خود عمل نکرده و باعث همه این مشکلات شده. مسگر بیچاره که از همه جا بی خبر بوده و آگاهی از چگونگی کار دیوان بلخ نداشته در توجیه کار خود در میماند و قاضی حکم به قصاص او میدهد تا داد بر قرار شود. این در واقع اساس همان ضرب المثلی است که میگوید: گنه کرد در بلخ آهنگری به ششتر زدند گردن مسگری. >>>

History in limbo

For the past few months, the legal proceedings surrounding the sale of Persian artifacts on loan to American museums and universities had remained mostly dormant. Isfahan - City of Polish Children

The Polish Postal Service has commemorated the role Isfahan played during World War 2 in caring for Polish orphans. The new stamp, "Isfahan - the City of Polish Children", went on sale earlier this month. It depicts a pupil at School No. 15 near Isfahan (Stanislaw Stojakowski), standing in front of a Persian carpet woven at the city's Carpet School in 1944. چراغ پیرزن

سرهنگ پیرزاد، اساساً فرد آرامی بود و از وقتی بازنشست شد، آرامتر گشت. اعضای خانواده اش به این وضعیت عادت کرده بودند. گاهی اوقات طی روزها فقط چند کلمه بیشتر نمی گفت. برنامه زندگی روزانه مرتبی داشت. پیاده روی و دیدار با دوستان در پارک. نهار، خواب، مطالعه و سرانجام خواب. به سبک دوران خدمت هر روز زود از خواب بیدار شده و به ورزش های سبک می پرداخت. آنقدر آرام بود که گاهی اوقات اعضای خانواده اش فراموش می کردند که سرهنگ با آنها زندگی می کند. حتی سر میز نهار و شام هم کمتر داخل بحث ها میشد. یونیفرم های دوران خدمت را مرتب در کمد لباسهایش چیده بود و هر از چند گاهی آنها را از کاور هایشان بیرون آورده و تماشا میکرد.برخی اوقات هم وقتی ساعتها محو تماشای آلبوم عکس های قدیمی میشد، بر می خواست ولباسهای نظامیش را می پوشید.>>>

Among so many Eves

An Evening with T

As I half-listened to the ebb and flow of the conversation, hypnotized by the contractions of the curtains, my mind wandered off to the time a few years ago, before the revolution, when I had brought T back to this very room from a night out carousing. It was summer too, but quite late and still – every movement and whisper muffled by the heat. She was beautiful, stunningly attractive with a visage one could stare at for hours. Full, heavy hair wound with curls colored a deep brown framed her not quite perfect face and fell to her shoulder. A broad, open forehead and eyes flecked with green that continuously teased and laughed at me, and soft freckles like raindrops on her cheeks courtesy of her Irish mother. Her mouth was always aquiver, egging me on with full lips that were slightly parted, as though waiting for a kiss>>>

Are we crazy?

We followed the fate of the French in Vietnam; are trying hard to imitate the Russians in Afghanistan; and now, our emulation-in-progress is of our beloved European cousins. Who would ever think that it was an American philosopher (by way of Spain), George Santayana, who stated just a century ago, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” And American government leaders always seem to be the forgetful ones, although as it happens in all these cases, it is the American people who are condemned to pay the consequences in both blood and dollars. We are not even speaking of millennia ago, or even centuries; only the recent past>>>

نانیتا

نانیتا به صورت ژنتیک تبعیدی یا مهاجر است. درختی است که ریشه اش در اوکراین پا گرفته است. مادر بزرگها و پدربزرگهایش از هجوم سوسیالیزم شوروی به آلمان گریخته اند، پس خاکشان را عوض کرده اند و ساکن آلمان شده اند. پدر و مادرش در جوانی جنگ دوم جهانی را در آلمان دیده اند و پشت سر گذاشته اند. نانیتا در بیست سالگی عاشق یک فرانسوی (که می گویند بانکدار بوده یا کارمند بانک؟) شده و دنبالش از آلمان آمده به فرانسه یعنی و باز خاکش را عوض کرده است. چند سالی با هم زندگی کرده اند و نشده دیگر. عشق تمام شده و ته کشیده ولی فرانسه تمام نشده و خاکش شده، حالا اینجا وطن کرده و فقط کارمند ساده ای در موزه است. با از هم پاشیده شدن دولت اتحاد جماهیر شوروی و تبدیل شدنش به جمهوری های کوچک، ناگهان نانیتا صاحب ارثیه و ملک و قصر مادر بزرگها یا پدربزرگهایش در اوکراین شد. >>>

دو دريچه، بر باغ سوختهء جبههء ملی

برای ما يک «نقطهء آغاز مشترک» وجود دارد و آن توافق بر اصل وجود يک «ملت واحد» و بنيادی بودن «حاکميت ملی» آن است. و روشن است که قدم های بعدی ما، همچون استخراج همهء آن چيزهائی که واجد صفت «ملی» هستند ـ مثلاً، تعيين مصاديق مصالح ملی و منافع ملی و منابع ملی و غير آنها ـ بايد بر حول همين اصل برداشته شوند. و از اين نظر که بنگريم بلافاصله می بينيم که در افق تاريخی و سياسی کشورمان تشکلی به نام «جبههء ملی ايران» وجود دارد که بطور طبيعی می تواند فرودگاه و قرارگاه و منزلگاه انواع انديشه هائی باشد که بر محور اين اصل توسع و گسترش می يابند. پس «جبههء ملی ايران» در امروز ما واجد توانائی های بالقوهء هيجان انگيزی است که اغلبشان در حال حاضر، بصورتی بلا استفاده و معطل، در تعليقی تاريخی گرفتارند>>>
