Reviving the Iranian revolt
by hoder
20-Feb-2008

At the height of the Iranian revolution in the winter of 1979, French philosopher, Michel Foucault, described what he was seeing in Tehran as "perhaps the first great insurrection against global systems, the form of revolt that is the most novel and the most insane."

"Islam," he wrote, "which is not simply a religion, but an entire way of life, an adherence to a history and a civilization, has a good chance to become a gigantic powder keg, at the level of hundreds of millions of men."

Such praising words about the Iranian uprising are probably the very reason few have even heard of Foucault's dispatches from Tehran for the Italian newspaper, Corriere Dela Sera, in 1978-79.

Twenty nine winters later, the Islamic Republic of Iran is more independent, stable, confident and technologically advanced than ever, while it has remained as the most serious and continuous challenge to the U.S. hegemony in the world.

But what can explain the survival of the outcome of such revolt? What will the future look like for Iran, whose most of its young population now have no first-hand experience of that revolt?

The rise of the first non-cleric president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, can point to some answers.

For sixteen years, Iranian government was in the hands of the Euro-American educated bureaucrats who were gradually departing from the specific subjectivity (rejection of the universals, in Foucult's term) which brought about the Iranian uprising of the 1979. The spectre of modernity slowly started to dominate everything, from the economy to the politics, and the two consequtive administrations picked up a similar project of modernization which the shah had previously failed to continue, and with it, the gloomy consequences started to wane in too: corruption, incompetence, and socio-economic inequality.

The elite's vision of economic and political "reform" was transforming Iran into a very similar country under the shah, only with an Islamic posture. At the same time, the Europe and the U.S. were not only happily watching as Iran was practically undoing its revolt, but even assisting and accelerating the process.

Then came the shock. Ahmadinejad, an outsider to the Iranian establishment who was never taken seriously by journalists and politicians alike, won the election. Compared to his main rivals, he had lower religious credentials, less support from the elite, less money for campaigning, and gave zero promises to normalize relations with the U.S. Instead, he travelled much more around the country and met face-to-face with the forgotten majority of Iranians, talked more about economic equality, and promised more of a serious war on corruption.

He simply pledged a return to the abandoned values of the 1979 uprising, with independence, freedom and justice at the centre. (His promises about a more relaxed attitude toward religious code are reflected in its talks with the British rocker Morrissey to have one of the first non-Iranian rock acts after 1979.)

If Western journalist leave the Northern part of Tehran more often, they will be able to observe how much Ahmadinejad represents a passionate revival of the core values of the uprising. They will also discover how Islam is functioning as the best, but not the only, carrier of those values.

Like many Iranians who have lived in the West for the past 7, 8 years, the rise of Ahmadinejad (and also travelling to other parts of the Middle East) has incited a radical change in the way I see myself, relate to Iran, and view the world. I have finally realised what it was that the entire Iranian nation revolted in order to achieve and how valuable this subjectivity is to empower the world of the marginalised, the poor and the oppressed.

This doesn't mean I don't see the unfortunate intolerance the Iranian government sometimes shows toward dissent and difference. But I argue that such intolerance is a direct consequent of the existential threat that the big powers have posed toward Iran since the day it succeeded in its revolt.

As a post-revolutionary Iranian, who is not religious a single bit, I am proud of what my parents' generation did in 1979 and I do whatever I can to protect and improve the Islamic Republic of Iran in its promises of independence, freedom and justice.

This has predictable made me being labelled as an "agent of the regime", by many exiled Iranians who always do that to anyone with whom disagrees with. But you will see millions like me if you ever visit Iran and not be trapped in those parties in Northern Tehran.

In response to your nonsense manipulation of retarded fallacy of LABELING the braves standing against the brutal religious monarchy of IRI with TREASON, I just get a little help from one of the comments:

If the majority of our nation are that naive or stupid to believe your craps, I would have to confess we are yet far behind to reach the democratic system we are fighting for and yet wouldn't deserve any better than the religious totalitarian system currently captured the country since 1979...

BUT I do personally believe what you claimed is definitely an insult to the intelligence of the majority of Iranians... fortunately they are smarter than that to buy such craps, Mr HODER...! You know why? cause the level of oppression gets higher and the sole reliable party of IR gets thinner... Theses are the symptoms of weakness bro... .

I am so sorry for you guys as things getting harder for you day by day... You have to struggle more to cover less... time betrays the games you play specially your such really fell-off-the-hood strategies... It is like a balloon with too many holes which you guys struggling to keep it up but yet have to blow more and more day by day to sustain its size... too many holes brother! too many...but don't give!!!

The unavoidable destiny of every monarch regime waiting for the IR and this is the end of the story condemned by HISTORY.

you may postpone the death but not avoid it! remember it! I am looking forward to see that day coming... SO:

Hire some smarter guys and spend more money to find better games to approach to distort the truth...

READ IT AGAIN AND AGAIN... EVERY TIME YOU WANNA ADD MORE FALLACIES MY RESPONSE TO YOU WOULD BE THE SAME AND YOU JUST CAN READ IT AGAIN... THAT WILL ANSWER YOUR TYPICAL RUSTED STRATEGIES PERFECTLY...

END OF THE BETRAYED STORY.

The idea of the so called opposition of Mullahs in terms of freedom fighting to get help from enemies of Iran is something new. Is that why Massoud Rajavi (and family) went to Saddam during the war and participated in killing iranians, and of course after that participated in killing Iraqis? Is that why Maryam Rajavi and MKO are taking money from Zionists and Arabs and actively participating in actions against iran so that a war can start?

Flying with Dick Cheney (as Mr Mohammadi - a student opposition in Tehran), a known enemy of iranians (and muslims in general) from Dubai to Washington DC is certainly not my idea of active opposition. It is TREASON as the original writes had pointed out.

Parastoo (or Shadan, if that is what you are):

If in your book, TREASON means fighting for freedom, let me break the bad news to you. Don't do it becasue you will end up like "W" -- free of intellect. In Iran you will be in Jail. AND YOU DESERVE IT.

wow...You really have alot of nerve, insulting those students who have protested against the tyranny of the Islamic Republic. Those students fought for our rights, they were jailed, tortured and some killed. Now I guess you don't know all the games that go into being a political activist. Just as people like Ebrahim Yazdi were in contact with the Carter administration at all times (setting up private meetings, receiving funding...) These students have fought hard, and risked their lives to make these contacts. He wanted to go to the U.S, because he wanted to be the voice of those who are silenced at home. You are inhumane, and ignorant. STOP TRYING TO BELITTLE these people... You only belittle yourself!

Anonymous! This book is a fraud. I have read it. There is no evidence whatsoever. Only speculation by a moron.

It says that British oil companies helped engineer the revolution after their contract was not renewed in NOVEMBER 1978!!!! Are you kidding? The unrests that lead to the revolution started years earlier. By November '78, it was all over for the Shah. What a joke!

The IRanian revolution was a manufactured rebellion against the Shah by the West. Please Read the book by William Engdhal:

//www.amazon.com/Century-War-Anglo-American-P...

Here are some excerpts:

In November 1978, President Carter named the Bilderberg group's George Ball, another member of the Trilateral Commission, to head a special White House Iran task force under the National Security Council's Brzezinski. Ball recommended that Washington drop support for the Shah of Iran and support the fundamentalistic Islamic opposition of Ayatollah Khomeini. Robert Bowie from the CIA was one of the lead 'case officers' in the new CIA-led coup against the man their covert actions had placed into power 25 years earlier. Their scheme was based on a detailed study of the phenomenon of Islamic fundamentalism, as presented by British Islamic expert, Dr. Bernard Lewis, then on assignment at Princeton University in the United States.

Lewis's scheme, which was unveiled at the May 1979 Bilderberg meeting in Austria, endorsed the radical Muslim Brotherhood movement behind Khomeini, in order to promote balkanization of the entire Muslim Near East along tribal and religious lines. Lewis argued that the West should encourage autonomous groups such as the Kurds, Armenians, Lebanese Maronites, Ethiopian Copts, Azerbaijani Turks, and so forth. The chaos would spread in what he termed an 'Arc of Crisis,' which would spill over into Muslim regions of the Soviet Union.

The coup against the Shah, like that against Mossadegh in 1953, was run by British and American intelligence, with the bombastic American, Brzezinski, taking public 'credit' for getting rid of the 'corrupt' Shah, while the British characteristically remained safely in the background.

During 1978, negotiations were under way between the Shah's government and British Petroleum for renewal of the 25-year old extraction agreement. By October 1978, the talks had collapsed over a British 'offer' which demanded exclusive rights to Iran's future oil output, while refusing to guarantee purchase of the oil. With their dependence on British-controlled export apparently at an end, Iran appeared on the verge of independence in its oil sales policy for the first time since 1953, with eager prospective buyers in Germany, France, Japan and elsewhere.

In its lead editorial that September, Iran's Kayhan International stated: In retrospect, the 25-year partnership with the [British Petroleum] consortium and the 50-year relationship with British Petroleum which preceded it, have not been satisfactory ones for Iran … Looking to the future, NIOC [National Iranian Oil Company] should plan to handle all operations by itself. London was blackmailing and putting enormous economic pressure on the Shah's regime by refusing to buy Iranian oil production, taking only 3 million or so barrels daily of an agreed minimum of 5 million barrels per day.

This imposed dramatic revenue pressures on Iran, which provided the context in which religious discontent against the Shah could be fanned by trained agitators deployed by British and U.S. intelligence. In addition, strikes among oil workers at this critical juncture crippled Iranian oil production. As Iran's domestic economic troubles grew, American 'security' advisers to the Shah's Savak secret police implemented a policy of ever more brutal repression, in a manner calculated to maximize popular antipathy to the Shah.

At the same time, the Carter administration cynically began protesting abuses of 'human rights' under the Shah. British Petroleum reportedly began to organize capital flight out of Iran, through its strong influence in Iran's financial and banking community. The British Broadcasting Corporation's Persian-language broadcasts, with dozens of Persian-speaking BBC 'correspondents' sent into even the smallest village, drummed up hysteria against the Shah.

The BBC gave Ayatollah Khomeini a full propaganda platform inside Iran during this time. The British government-owned broadcasting organization refused to give the Shah's government an equal chance to reply. Repeated personal appeals from the Shah to the BBC yielded no result. Anglo-American intelligence was committed to toppling the Shah. The Shah fled in January, and by February 1979, Khomeini had been flown into Tehran to proclaim the establishment of his repressive theocratic state to replace the Shah's government. Reflecting on his downfall months later, shortly before his death, the Shah noted from exile, I did not know it then perhaps I did not want to know but it is clear to me now that the Americans wanted me out. Clearly this is what the human rights advocates in the State Department wanted What was I to make of the Administration's sudden decision to call former Under Secretary of State George Ball to the White House as an adviser on Iran? Ball was among those Americans who wanted to abandon me and ultimately my country.[1][1]

With the fall of the Shah and the coming to power of the fanatical Khomeini adherents in Iran, chaos was unleashed. By May 1979, the new Khomeini regime had singled out the country's nuclear power development plans and announced cancellation of the entire program for French and German nuclear reactor construction. Iran's oil exports to the world were suddenly cut off, some 3 million barrels per day. Curiously, Saudi Arabian production in the critical days of January 1979 was also cut by some 2 million barrels per day. To add to the pressures on world oil supply, British Petroleum declared force majeure and cancelled major contracts for oil supply. Prices on the Rotterdam spot market, heavily influenced by BP and Royal Cutch Shell as the largest oil traders, soared in early 1979 as a result.

The second oil shock of the 1970s was fully under way. Indications are that the actual planners of the Iranian Khomeini coup in London and within the senior ranks of the U.S. liberal establishment decided to keep President Carter largely ignorant of the policy and its ultimate objectives. The ensuing energy crisis in the United States was a major factor in bringing about Carter's defeat a year later. There was never a real shortage in the world supply of petroleum. Existing Saudi and Kuwaiti production capacities could at any time have met the 5-6 million barrels per day temporary shortfall, as a U.S. congressional investigation by the General Accounting Office months later confirmed. Unusually low reserve stocks of oil held by the Seven Sisters oil multinationals contributed to creating a devastating world oil price shock, with prices for crude oil soaring from a level of some $14 per barrel in 1978 towards the astronomical heights of $40 per barrel for some grades of crude on the spot market. Long gasoline lines across America contributed to a general sense of panic, and Carter energy secretary and former CIA director, James R. Schlesinger, did not help calm matters when he told Congress and the media in February 1979 that the Iranian oil shortfall was 'prospectively more serious' than the 1973 Arab oil embargo.[2][2]

The Carter administration's Trilateral Commission foreign policy further ensured that any European effort from Germany and France to develop more cooperative trade, economic and diplomatic relations with their Soviet neighbor, under the umbrella of détente and various Soviet-west European energy agreements, was also thrown into disarray. Carter's security adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski, and secretary of state, Cyrus Vance, implemented their 'Arc of Crisis' policy, spreading the instability of the Iranian revolution throughout the perimeter around the Soviet Union. Throughout the Islamic perimeter from Pakistan to Iran, U.S. initiatives created instability or worse." --

In 1978, the Iranian Ettelaat published an article accusing Khomeini of being a British agent. The clerics organized violent demonstrations in response, which led to the flight of the Shah months later. See U.S. Library of Congress Country Studies, Iran. The Coming of the Revolution. A firm deep response by Farrokh Negahdar

by DMKRC (not verified) on

I do not reply to the little puppet, Hoder as this is all he is looking for-ATTENTION, I would rather invite you to read the impressive letter Mr Farrokh Negahdar wrote speaking to Mr Ali Khamenei:

Farrokh@homechoice.co.uk

Student (not verified)

I like you read this and compare how much we made progress in the aspect of respecting the very fundamental rights of a citizen in comparison with before revolution:

POPULIST PARTY OF AHMADINEJAD...BY HODER

by ... (not verified) on

I like mention to a part of Mr Derakhshan's article which implies exactly manipulation of an old political phenomena called POPULISM by Mr Ahmadinejad!!! :

Ahmadinejad, an outsider to the Iranian establishment who was never taken seriously by journalists and politicians alike, won the election. Compared to his main rivals, he had lower religious credentials, less support from the elite, less money for campaigning, and gave zero promises to normalize relations with the U.S. Instead, he travelled much more around the country and met face-to-face with the forgotten majority of Iranians, talked more about economic equality, and promised more of a serious war on corruption.

In response to your sincere appreciation of yourself I just get a little help from one of the comments:

Good luck bro!

Thanks Hoder for your thoughtful artcile. I am glad you see things the way majority of Iranians do see them.
You talk about exiles and ithe like, my advice: Screw them. They are either paid by their membership in "$75M Club" or some other source by our enemies. Who cares what they say.

Screw MKO... Who the heck are MKOS?!!! who care on the MKO?!!! I do speak for myself however this is also another fallacy you are manipulating WHERE:
In stead of responding to the causes I brought up you try to label me...

I have finalized my response to you all in my latest personal reply to you...

To Hoder, What a bunch of Crap!

This article is full of crap and lies. Hossein, why don't you go back to Iran if it is so great! while you try to live there maybe you can study how the real "Hossein" destroyed Iran, like his other Arab ancestors!

That is the point YOU are missing "student". In every country there are people who spend time in jail for breaking the laws of that country. If someone (in this example Mr. Mohammadi - a student)has so clear connection to our enemies that their VP flies to Dubai to save him, our government (that is IRI) has done the right thing to jail him, and I would have HANNGED HIM. It is not the issue of "FREEDOM" but "TREASON".

All the copycats of BiAdabi and... also you brother, Shaboon can find your respond in my last reply...

I just add the last thing here:
The fact that I have to see an Iranian has to flee to another country because of his or her believes and ideology would approve this undeniable fact that an oppressing regime has rubbed the authority of my homeland; this sole fact is enough for me to disqualify their legitimacy which they dont have and they know they don't...

look for more fact? as far as we do not feel secure to express ourselves by releasing our real identity it already approves our very basic rights been violated by a totalitarian regime even not loyal to its own retarded constitutional laws... open your eyes...

I have not seen some one being fled from the US to Iran due to demanding their bill of rights...

I don't have time for your retarded fallacies... get my final respond in my last posted reply.

Evey time you respond, just read the last reply I posted which would answer all your possible coming fallacies for sure.

Why are you avoiding the issues I am writing about in resposne to your article? Spewing garbage like you do is the hallmark of MKO membership. I hope you are not one, because everyone inside and outside Iran HATES them..

Lets not forget that one of these so called "students" was said to have "fled to Dubai from Evin Prison"!!!!. The next day Dick Cheney was on the plane to Dubai bringing him to the USA. I forget his name now (was it Mohammadi? -- he is interviewed on VoA TV sometimes), but I am sure some archives have him too. Should we value this mr. mohammadi (or whatever his name is -- a "student") just because he was held in jail by Mullahs? I would say NO WAY. He was obviously connected to iranian nation's enemies (why else should Mr Dick Cheney go all the way to Dubai with his bad heart to bring him to the USA on AIR FORCE II !!!!)? So, my child, be smart and get smart. Don't just go with some story becasue someone says so. You will find out mullahs are the BEST option we have right now. They are by no means the best for us Iranians, we deserve better, but who else?

In response to Mr Dehkhoda and BiAdabi manipulating the expired rusted pretext of "Conspiracy Theory" inspired by the typical masters of the IR in oppression- Russia, The old Chile and North Korea and almost all other communist monarchies oppressing their own nation with that pretext...: Almost every body is the enemy of the state which is not ofcourse representing the majority of the people; it is true...the more you get weak the more you get paranoid... so here are more of such types of labeled voices already been filtered by the party of the Religious Monarchy struggling to conceal their reality:

Hey Student Man,
We are all after the facts. However, when the so called "facts" come from the mouth of a group of terrorists like MKO and their memership who are supported by the Iranian nation's enemies, we have to say "No thank you". That is because historically speaking they have always been lying and "facts" are the last thing they speak of. In fact we need freedom in our motherland, BUT NOT AT ANY PRICE. Some would have said "Shaboon Bimokh"'s style of coup by CIA was better than mullahs, I say NO. We are better off with mullahs and with homegrown movements and democracy discipline by our nation, rather than one funded by the CIA and Zionists or their Arab colleagues. They are our enemies, and so are the MKO.

I dont need any source better than the prisoners themselves still in their sells with no way out...

The copy of that letter has been forwarded to so many official offices in Iran so there is no way any one could deny that...

I dont need you to believe anything or question the validity of a source... youre not a sincere person looking for the truth but more seems like an agent desperately trying to distort the truth...

Who the heck are Maryam @ Masoud?!!! You are a jerk trying to pollute the fact... I am talking on the Iranian students imprisoned and tortured and yet not released and you mention on the craps of Enemy of Iranian people( with your trashy English)!!!
Enemy of Iranian people are first, guys like you who sold their spirit of freedom and then the IR itself not any thing else... .

You instead of reasoning talking about the baseless and totally irrelevant issues which either their validation or invalidation wouldnt disapprove the fact I brought up... If you like to fool yourself keep on... But let me tell you the last fact:

If you do not want to believe he truth, no one can help you... keep yourself in the illusion of denials you make...

Majid Tavakoli is still in prison like so many other students... how can you ridicule them who are still in pain and torture solely because of what they believe.

Obviously your original source is a known MKO establishment (roozonline) and not credible. Why should we believe it?
If you haven't gotten the news yet, MKO are buch of terorrists supported by the enemy of Iranian people (Zionists, CIA, Arab governments, etc.) They say anything. Just need to be careful about believing them. Maraym Khanoom sleeps with Eurpean leaders in Paris to pass anti-iranian people resolutions. Where is Massoud the leader?

For a prisoner in IRI jails, you write very good English!!!!. Is it possible that you are "Dick Man's" English tutor? Are you sure you were not spending your time at the white house all those years? Just wonder!

Ben (bi)Madadi is a member of "$75M Club" and therefore has to defend his masters' positions (zionists and the CIA). Therefore let him pay his mortgage and bills and don't worry about what he says.

Hoder your are so badly misunderstood.

by Anonymous4now on

I know you have the noble intent of wanting to unite the opposition against the IRI but your are being careful with your words so as not to alienate the Islamists and the left.  In your defense I have re-written a large portion of your disguised essay, the way you would have wanted to write, had it not been for this fear and added some of my own comments in square brackets.   Twenty nine winters later, the Islamic Republic of Iran is more independent [of any moral obligations, human principles and modern societal norms and values], stable [compared to Afganistan and Iraq], confident [as a suicidal lunatic would be, on the edge of a cliff] and technologically advanced than ever [just kidding, wanted to see if you are attentive], while it has remained as the most serious and continuous challenge to the U.S. hegemony in the world. [This is as comical as I will ever get in writing]

But what can explain the survival of the outcome of such revolt? What will the future look like for Iran, whose most of its young population now have no first-hand experience of that revolt?

If Western journalist leave the Northern part of Tehran more often, they will be able to observe how much Ahmadinejad represents [or does not] a passionate revival of the core values of the uprising. They will also discover how Islam is functioning as the best, but not the only, carrier of those values.  [30 years after people revolted to seek justice and freedom they are still after those “core values].

The rise of the first non-cleric president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad [a mullah without an abaa and a coliflower on his head], can point to some answers [he can tell us where the hidden Imam is, and because he is a Mohandes, and as he reminds us, he calculates everything, then rest assured we will know for certain when and where the hidden Imam will appear].

For sixteen years, Iranian government was in the hands of the Euro-American educated bureaucrats [like Bazargan, who believed that the concept of jen was the equivalent of what the Western scientists believe to be the Atom, and Rajaie were dragging us into the abyss of the decrepit of this modernity, and] who were gradually departing from the specific subjectivity (rejection of the universals [like human values and norms of human decency], in Foucult's term) which brought about the Iranian uprising of the 1979.”

[He is very clever here.  He has to disguise his next paragraph with this negation of the Shah’s effort, in order to prevent the left and the Islamists in attacking him for the credit he is giving the Shah.]

The elite's vision of economic and political "reform" was transforming Iran into a very similar country [to Western countries] under the shah, only with an Islamic posture [another clever defensive statement]. At the same time, the Europe and the U.S. were not only happily watching as Iran was practically undoing its revolt, but even assisting and accelerating the process.

This doesn't mean I don't see the unfortunate intolerance the Iranian government sometimes shows toward dissent and difference. But I argue that such intolerance is a direct consequent of the existential threat that the big powers have posed toward Iran since the day it succeeded in its revolt. [What he is saying, really, is that the same powers that helped the revolution to triumph are now helping oppress and torment the Iranian nation so the regime can be stronger, to serve the purposes for which they helped it triumph, in the first place]

Then came the shock. [out of the ashes of waning intellectualism rose this bastion of modern thinking and this symbol of the unlimited and untapped resources of human intelligence,] Ahmadinejad, an outsider to the Iranian establishment [just kidding, he was blessed by the rahbar, himself] who was never taken seriously by journalists [because he looked stupid] and politicians [because he was making impossible to keep promises] alike, won the election [with the help of the basiji and paasdaar brothers and their families]. Compared to his main rivals, he had lower religious credentials [he did not wear an abaa to], less support from the elite [he wanted to be the elite], less money for campaigning, and gave zero promises to normalize relations with the U.S. [the same God forsaken country that IRI should normalize relations with so the regime does not become stronger as a result of their hegemony and oppress Iranians, more.  But he did cleverly argue that women’s dress code should not be an issue].  Instead, he travelled much more around the country and met face-to-face with the forgotten majority of Iranians, talked more about economic equality, and promised more of a serious war on corruption.  [Why doesn’t any one see the point?   Hoder says he TALKED and PROMISED, he doest say he meant to implement any of it.]

He simply pledged a return to the abandoned values of the 1979 uprising, with independence [from all obligations to morality, Human values, norms and rules of modern societies], freedom and justice at the centre [he is referring to the freedom square and the Hall of Justice in the city center]. (His promises about a more relaxed attitude toward religious code are reflected in its talks with the British rocker Morrissey to have one of the first non-Iranian rock acts after 1979.).  [Listen people!  He started talks with Morrisey, so give him time, he will eventually get to talking with Britney Spears and Hanna Montana.  Come on people! Give him a chance].

I have finally realised what it was that the entire Iranian nation revolted in order to achieve and how valuable this subjectivity is to empower the world of the marginalised, the poor and the oppressed. [Finally, after 30 years he has realized how valuable it is to empower the marginalized, the poor and the oppressed who are still suffering.  He wants your help to emancipate the Iranian nation.]

As a post-revolutionary Iranian, who is not religious a single bit [this represents a digital bit out of a 32 bit digital word], I am proud of what my parents' generation did in 1979 [they played the roles of convenient idiots, and let the Islamists and the leftists have their way] and I do whatever I can to protect and improve the Islamic Republic of Iran in its promises of independence [from all human values obligations], freedom [from all moral and societal attachments] and justice.[and I will promise to do all of that from exile, so I don’t risk the wrath of Islamic justice]

This has predictable made me being labelled as an "agent of the regime", by many exiled Iranians who always do that to anyone with whom disagrees with. But you will see millions like me if you ever visit Iran [of coarse not all in one visit.  It may take you a life time of visitations to see millions of people with your own eyes] and not be trapped in those parties in Northern Tehran. [same parties the Western journalists are in, which is making them miss seeing the poor and the disenfranchised who are still in search of the core values of the revolution].

I believe you Hoder.  You are completely misunderstood.  Judging by the way the regime operates, you are not an agent, although the regime has played evrygame you could ever conceive of.  Have you heard of Jamshid Tafreshi?   He confessed to having been paid by the regime to smear the opposition and play a role in keeping them divided and fighting each other, and named contacts and agents of the regime.

//www.iranprobe.com/Serving%20the%20Ayatoiiahs/letters'/jamshid%20tafrishi.htm

After his defection, another person, Mahmoud assudi, purportedly defected in 2002, revealing the names of the same characters as Tafreshi had done, but in addition named Alireze Noorizadeh as a paid agent of the IRI.  Anyone who knows Noorizadeh is going to argue that this second person is an imposter and by association, Tafreshi must be a fake too, since his sources are the same as the fake defector’s.   The regime has played these games before and so don’t take it personal if people think you are an agent of the regime.   They don’t question your vocation.  They mistrust the regime.

I am so proud of :The Shutting or Suspension of 113 NGOs

by Yavar (not verified) on

See how the sincere IR brothers solely for the enefit of our nation detected alot of NUFUZIs... It just reminds me a jock by Ebrahim Nabavi: Akheh cheghadr nufuzi!!! Inghadr nufuzi ziad shodeh keh tu hamin shahre khodemun az har 100 nafar 90 nafar 2 ta kam, nufuzi hastand! begirid in nufuziha ro!!!
The Shutting or Suspension of 113 NGOs
Government’s Record for Civil Society - 2008.02.22
During the past Iranian year (ending in March 21, 2008), Iran's
government has shut or suspended the work of some 113 NGOs, 118 of
which had their licenses revoked.‎
The news of the work suspension of 25 NGOs and termination of licenses of 88 others ‎was brought up in a speech presented by an NGO activist and also at the second election ‎session at the Ministry of Interior’s Election Supervision Board to elect representatives of ‎public organizations while the performance record of the first term of the Election ‎Supervisory Board was read out. The latter meeting was held a month ago at the Ministry ‎in the presence of representatives from 82 non governmental organizations.‎
Regarding the reasons for shutting down the work of these many NGOs, this informed ‎source said that some of the organizations had refrained from presenting their annual ‎financial and performance report to the Ministry, while others said that they had been ‎threatened by the ninth Islamic government currently in office.
