The Real Race for Iran

Sweeping Sanctions

The House and Senate voted Thursday to impose sweeping new sanctions against Iran, sending the legislation to the President’s desk for approval. اعدام عبدالمالک ریگی کسی را شگفت‌زده نکرد. حکومتی که خود از آدم‌کشان حرفه‌ای حمایت می‌کند و آنان را در پناه خود گرفته است به سختی می‌تواند مدعی اجرای عدالت باشد، و کاربرد مجازات اعدام از سوی این حکومت پس از محاکمات عموما ناعادلانه و بدون رعایت کمترین ضوابط دادرسی تنها بر پرونده قطور جرایم خود حاکمیت می‌افزاید. برای چنین حکومتی، مجازات اعدام عمدتا یک حربه سیاسی برای ارعاب و سرکوب است، و ربط چندانی به جرایم و جنایاتی که قربانیان اعدام به آن متهم می‌شوند ندارد>>>
