چه در قم و تهران، یا غزه و لبنان، یا کابل و بغداد و کاراکاس، اگر کسانی برای خامنه‌ای یا احمدی‌نژاد مجیز می‌گویند و کف می‌زنند، بدون تردید باید رد و ساندیس و دلار و یورو را در آن‌جا جست. و به راستی هوگو چاوز از این همه سفر دور و دراز به تهران چه می‌خواهد؟ او که کشور نفت‌خیزی دارد و نباید به کیسه‌های پول خامنه‌ای یا احمدی‌نژاد نیاز داشته باشد؟ این درست. ولی در کشور او مسلما دزدی به این آسانی نیست>>>

خاطره، خاطره، خاطره این خاطره لعنتی ناخن‌های تیزش را فرو می‌کند توی پوستم، گوشتم، قلبم، روحم و روانم. دوست مهاجری می گفت: دلم تنگ می شود چه کنم؟ گفتم: طاقت بیاور. به اندازای که با یک کفش نو اینقدر سر کنی تا کهنه شود، دلتنگی‌ات را با اولین کفش کهنه‌ات دور می‌اندازی و دیگر تمام می‌شود. دیگر توی شهر جدیدت اینقدر خاطرات ریز و درشت و خاطرات بد و خوب داری که سرت گرم می‌شود و مجالی برای دلتنگی نمی‌ماند>>>

Instead of using the historically accepted term - and observing State Department protocol - "Persian Gulf", Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Andrew Shapiro referred to the "Arabian Gulf", a politically charged phrase with a relatively recent but insidious history. While it may sound like a mere matter of semantics to some, in a region marred by ethnic tensions, usage of "Arabian Gulf" is a serious signal that could portend a dangerous, counterproductive path for the US ahead>>>

اخيراً آقای آرامش دوستدار طی نامه مفصلی برخی از مواضع اخير شما در باره دگرگونی های فکری در ايران، حقوق مسلمانان در غرب، و شرايط همزيستی دين و مدرنيته در جهان معاصر را مورد انتقاد شديد قرارداده اند. ديدن انسانی چنين تهی از اميد و خوشبينی، نه تنها نسبت به ايران و ايرانيان بلکه نسبت به همه انسانيت، جداً تاسف آور است. اميدواريم که نامه ايشان را بعنوان نشانه و نمونه ای از شرايط اخلاقی و فکری سرزمين ما تلقی نفرمائي>>>

با پاهای لرزان به دیوار سفید هال خانه‌مان تکیه کردم و نفسی عمیق که از سر ترس، شرم و خوشنودی گویا ساعت ها در سینه ام حبس کرده بودم با رضایت بیرون دادم، گویا نتوانستم به درستی همه هوای جمع شده داخل ریه ام را به بیرون بدهم. نفس عمیق دیگری کشیدم و این بار با هیجان بیشتر نفس حبس شده ام را اندک اندک بیرون فرستادم و هر بار احساس سبکی بیشتری کردم>>>

Most of us have been taught to stay away from discussing politics and religion, so as not to disturb the dinner guests. Well, as most of you know, I've been covering politics for so long I can barely discuss anything else. And the freedom Time Goes By gives me in writing these little essays compels me to confess that I do not recall when it was that I came out of the closet. That's when I acknowledged that I'm an atheist, that I do not believe there is a God. In fact I don't know why I capitalized the "G." Although it may be blasphemous, I have had a bumper sticker that says, "I believe in Dog...">>>
