You don't have to like the IRI to admit that they did in fact take care of the poor in Iran. The average Iranian now lives longer, is far more likely to be literate (especially women) has far better access to clean water, electricity, roads, medical care than ever before. Under-5 mortality for children in Iran in 1980 was 130. By 2005 it was 38 and was falling further. Currently, Iran's Human Development Index stands at 88th in the world, placing it high on the "medium developed" nations list. From 1975 through 1980 Iran's Human Development Index remained stagnant at 0.569. By 1990 it was up to 0.693, and in 2002 it was 0.732. According to the World Development Indicators 2001, women make up 26 percent of the workforce. In 1975, it was 19 percent.

first of all, they didn't.  They 1979 devolution was started by leftist groups, and the mullahs jumped on the bandwagon at the last minute to take advantage of the division and disarray among those groups.

But more importantly, let's say that they did.  Was it the right thing to do/  To replace the Shah with the murderous clusterf**k that is the IRI.  Saying that it was good to replace the Shah with the IRI is like saying it's good to commit suicide to get rid of a cold.

Accomplishment #1

Back in 1979 Islam was a respected idea in Iran.  After 31 years of Islam plus democracy, today both ISLAM and DOG SHIT are thought of in the exact same way by the majority of Iranians.

Accomplishment #2

Back in 1979, the old, out dated, unproven, highly ridiculed idea of democracy was highly respected in Iran among intellectuals. Today Iranians ask questions like, why is the word democracy not even mentioned one time in the constitution of the united states? Why are 95% of the democratic republics the most miserable inhumane places on earth to live? From the democratic republic of haiti to india.  Therefore Most people don't want to buy democratic ideal for their future government.  IRI was enough for them.

Accomplishment #3

Back in 1979, Iranians had Freedom. Today they live in a democratic style tyranny... not unlike 95% of all other western imposed democratic republics.  Iranians want Freedom back, the way the Shah had delivered it.  This would not be possible without experiencing Democracy first hand. 

Accomplishment #4

Respect for Homosexuality.. okay Islamic republic didn't exactly get most Iranians to respect homosexuality as a good choice.  But it is true that homosexuality was disapproved of in the attitudes of Iranians before the revolution.  On a factual level most Iranians realize that at least homosexuality has done less harm to Iran and humanity than either Islam or democratic republics, so Today many Iranians can say homosexuality as a choice is deserving of a more respect than Islam or Democratic Republics... although they may not choose it for themselves.

Accomplishment #5

No one but Muslims praise Khomeini and therefore they are becoming fewer by the day. Khomeini was a National Gift. In 1979 most people were Liars and very dishonest in Iran, which resulted in not defending their way of life or the shah who was a hero based on how he helped all people.  Khomeini was like hitting bottom. Without him people would not have stopped to think... okay now we absolutely have to be truthful at least with ourselves and even honest with respect to others.  Otherwise we will stay with this asshole forever.

Accomplishment #6

Appreciating the Shah, any ungrateful asswipe would worship the shahs generosity and highly principalled approach in serving Iranians... ironically except the ungrateful Iranians themselves.  Today we truly appreciate him.

Accomplishment #7

Realizing we are good enough as we are as people and don't have to be any better than we already are.  We just need to use our gifts and not let them languish unused, like courage, passion, love, comapassion.  We are fine.  All we need to do is be ourselves and not follow lies like democracy, islam, judaism, christianity, evolution, socialism, or anythng that makes unkeepable promises to us,  Live In Peace and Free, its all that matters.

I don't recall

I don't recall breast-feeding was ever discouraged in Pahlavi era. But to accommodate women in workforce, the substitute, which with the science of the time was not considered vastly inferior, was proposed. But the women in the workforce that I remember, were bottling their breast-milk for the period of their absence.

I don't think IRI is capable of well intention. The underpinning argument about breast-feeding is not medical advantages, but their view about women place in society. The rest is justification, any way it comes by... look at Niloofar!

You are absolutely correct on both points.  I tried long and hard to think of one as well, but could not come up with one.  And as far as the price in lives, you are right.  Was this education in what a domestic dictatorship really is worth the price that our country and our people have paid, and keep on paying?

Not a single worthwhile contribution. Spiritual, material or social. Even the side benefit of their 31 year resounding success in proving religion, especially islam (sunni or shi't) is incompatible with progress and human spirit, was not worth the price in lives, property, honor, happiness, spirit, and opportunity.

This is the darkest hour of our history including the invasion of foreigners determined to destroy us. Alexander, Mongols, Arabs, and Turks were all understood and known as foreigners. This pernicious enemy is deep within, and keeps metastasizing.

The mullahs did everything they could for almost two centuries to take power, and a lot of people were fooled by their propaganda.  But as you point out, they quickly showed their real faces and their morbid plan for our homeland.  That is, in fact, the best thing that they could have done for Iran.  

I bet you that akhoonds will be hunted down like rabid dogs after this regime collapses.   

IRI positive contribution

They showed us what islam was and is and the true nature of mullah's and affiliates. Two centuries of secular education wouldn't have waken people in Iran than two decades of rulling by these monsters!!!

 The process shocked the us so much that as a result  we may see a rise of true secualrism and hopefully a rise of an Iranian nationalism based on path of Kian. The nationalism that has been burried under yokes and ashes for centuries.

The sad part is the price that was paid and keep paying: Hundreds of thousends killed in useless war and excution chambers, econmoic, political destruction,social and moral bankrupcy, loss of much of capsian sea (A treason as big as torkamachai treaty),, and the list goes on and on.....
