I am a Tehran girl. I was born in Tehran’s Amirieh neighborhood, but moved to Tehran Pars with my family before I turned one. The quiet and sleepy suburban neighborhood had all that was ideal about raising children, I guess. The perfect new streets, all straight and numbered, were signs that this was one of the first planned neighborhoods of Tehran. It had amenities no other neighborhood had as yet, a huge playground, a modern public swimming pool, a drive-in cinema, two adjacent elementary schools for girls and boys, and even aspirations for a casino!>>>

سبز جنبشی بی‌خشونت است و از این نظر تجربه‌ای است آغازین برای ما. تجربه‌ای آغازین نه از آن که پیش‌تر جنبش‌های بی‌خشونت در ایران وجود نداشته‌اند. جنبش سبز جنبشی آغازین است زیرا، برعکس جنبش‌های پیشین (مانند جنبش تنباکو یا جنبش ملی شدن صنعت نفت) رویکردِ بی‌خشونت را نه تنها آگاهانه به کار گرفته، بل کنشِ بی‌خشونت را با گفتمانِ بی‌خشونت، و ترویجِ آن، همراه کرده است. پس جنبش سبز به هرگونه گرایش یا ایدئولوژی که از اهمیت جنبه‌ی خشونت‌پرهیز جنبشِ مردمیِ امروز ایران بکاهد، بی‌اعتنائی می‌کند. از این رو، جنبش سبز نه تنها جنبشی سیاسی- اجتماعی که جنبشی آموزشی نیز هست>>>

You might call this confession of a reluctant sanction-monger. Advocating sanctions against ones homeland is as strange as advocating for ones extended family to go without, so there better be a damn good reason(s) for such odd advocacy. First a little personal background which might help in dispelling any false notion or prejudgment. My entire extended family except one sibling live in Iran, all except one world-class rich distant cousin, are middle to lower middle class with most being like the overwhelming majority of Iranians in the hand to mouth category>>>

احتمال کنار آمدن رژیم با کشورهای غربی در مسئله فعالیت‌های هسته‌ای ایران را باید واقع‌بینانه تلقی کرد. البته اگر ضعف رژیم در برابر کشورهای غربی به شفاف شدن فعالیت‌های هسته‌ای ایران بینجامد، و از این طریق مسابقه تسلیحاتی اتمی در منطقه خاورمیانه مهار شود، از این برآیند باید استقبال کرد. ولی وقتی رژیمی در برابر فشار خارجی آسیب‌پذیر شد خطر در آن است که این آسیب پذیری در سایر روابط نیز تأثیر بگذارد و منافع ملی کشور ما را به خطر اندازد. از جمله، رژیم ایران در گذشته برای جلب حمایت روسیه در برابر کشورهای غربی سرمایه‌های زیادی از منابع ملی کشور، از جمله در دریای خزر، را هزینه کرده است>>>

Young people continue to die in Iran. In December of 1953 following the coup d’état that overthrew Prime Minister Mohammad Mossedeqh, students of Tehran University staged a protest in response to a visit by then U.S. Vice President Richard Nixon. During the demonstration police shot and killed three students. Today when we read about the deaths of Ahmad Ghandchi, Azar Shariatrazavi, and Mostafa Bozorgnia more than 50 years ago, it isn't hard to see the similarities they had with students today>>>

The best day of my life was when mom bought me the Princess Saba in her long white dress covered with thousands of colorful tinsels. Her lush blonde hair falling over her chest was so shiny that when in stared at them it was like staring into the sun. Her eyes were blue, the type that open and close. Every day I combed her hair, I touch her breasts hoping one day mine would grow like them. My only wish was to become a bride just like the Princess with blonde hair, blue eyes, red lips and white gown>>>

پرده برزنت آرام آرام شروع کرد به پائین آمدن و دسته موزیک به طور نا هم آهنگی به نواختن سرود ملی پرداخت. دقایقی طول کشید تا سطح آبهای استخر را همه ببینند. ناگهان همه جمعیت از وحشت بر جای خود میخکوب شدند. اسکلت های سربازان گم شده گروهان اول کوندور بر سطح آب شناور بود. سفیدی جمجمه ها زیر آفتاب استوائی می درخشید. آب استخر مخلوطی بود از خون و پوست و امعاء و احشاء سربازانی که بعد از بازگشت از ماموریت سرکوب شورش های انتخابات 12 ژوئن بدون اینکه شنا بلد باشند پریده بودند داخل استخر و همگی غرق شده بودند>>>

Every year on Thanksgiving Day I give thanks that Iran’s problems with the West are gravy compared to what the Indian chief Massasoit faced when English settlers landed at Plymouth Rock in1620. As the story goes, the newcomers were starving that first winter in America and the Indians helped them survive. The outcome was pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, leftover turkey sandwiches, and the United States of America. Also, the Native American way of life was demolished. Massasoit was a great and wise chief. Undoubtedly he saw the threat these foreigners posed. >>>
