24-Nov-2011 (10 comments)

PROTEST

What Do We Want? When Do We Want It?

Learning from "Angry Birds", the world's newest religion

24-Nov-2011
Watching the seeming chaos of the Occupy protests and the general lack of organization or the absence of any real political practical point to them, eerily reminds me of Iranians. We too have in many ways protested our plight as the fast dying last least free people on earth. Well, not exactly. Well, sort of. If being haplessly un-free was Maple Syrup, Iran would be the world's Waffle House. And the joke, is entirely on us.>>>

FOROUHARS

The Swallow and Her Butterflies

On the 13th anniversary of Parvaneh and Dariush Forouhar’s murder

22-Nov-2011 (6 comments)
In the corner of the gallery in Berlin, I saw the paintings I had come to see -those by Parastou (whose name means swallow) Forouhar- the ones with the many butterflies and guns, as well as the chess tables. Next to the table where I sat to rest a bit before looking at each individual painting and sketch, I spotted a brochure about the artist. I then went over to the gallery attendant, a young man, and asked him, “Do you know what the story is behind these butterflies?” He said “No, but would you mind telling me?” So I did>>>

IRAN-ISRAEL

When You Love to Hate your Enemy

Interview with Israeli-American scholar Dr. Avner Cohen

20-Nov-2011 (11 comments)
I do not think that Israel will attack Iran anytime soon. Specifically, I believe there is low likelihood of an Israeli attack in the coming six months. But it all depends on how circumstances develop. I firmly believe that much of the current talk about Israel attacking Iran is just posturing. I do believe that Iran continues to develop expertise in all aspects of nuclear weapons research and development, but I am unsure whether Iran is actually manufacturing nuclear weapons>>>

16-Nov-2011 (66 comments)

SANCTIONS

Heading to a new war

Sanctions against Saddam Hussein were followed by war

14-Nov-2011
Anyone who ignores the nuclear weapons arsenal in the hands of a state that since its foundation has waged several wars upon its neighboring countries... is blind in one eye. And anyone who... limits itself to the desire of preventing Iranian nuclear weapons, is not only advocating that Israel as the only country of the region retains its nuclear weapons monopoly, but also becomes ultimately responsible for the proliferation of nuclear weapons in the region and beyond>>>

Nuclear Iran Not the End of the World

A danger the U.S. and the rest of the world can live with

12-Nov-2011 (13 comments)
The logic of Mutually Assured Destruction holds that a country with nuclear weapons will not attack another nuclear-armed country because it will itself face retaliation in the form of nuclear destruction. Destroying the enemy becomes a way of destroying oneself. MAD, as the policy came to be known during the Cold War, is unsettling but has proved 100 percent effective in preventing war between nuclear-armed states. Iran is unique, argue the hawks of Washington and Tel Aviv>>>

You Can Stop Iran War

Iranians reading the corporate media become very anxious about increased chances of war

12-Nov-2011 (69 comments)
Regrettably those that orchestrated this most recent anti-Iran campaign largely achieved their objective, which was to further demonize Iran, increase support for harsher sanctions, and lay the groundwork for military action. Most Iranians reading the corporate media of the past several months most likely became very anxious and concerned about the increased chances of war breaking out>>>

French-Iranian journalist's book inspired by his experience in the Islamic Republic

10-Nov-2011 (3 comments)
“Welcome to the Islamic Republic,” he laughs. “Paradise on Earth, as long as you can afford it.” Omid forces a smile, for he himself—a student from Tehran—was far from born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He owes his invitation to this dream party to Morteza, a rich friend. Luckily for him his real identity remains a secret, or he would never have had the slightest chance of hooking up with the beautiful Helya; even the evening’s delights, however, cannot cover up his deep depression>>>

We would like to explicitly state that we are not seeking your military assistance against the Islamic Republic. Considering the consequences of military action on the current situation in Iran, we strongly warn against it. In order to help the Iranian people, please focus on: Placing sanctions against human rights violations, high-ranking Iranian regime members, and IRGC commanders and members of their immediate families >>>

Unwavering defence of Persian ‘superiority’

08-Nov-2011 (10 comments)
Those Iranian/Persian intellectuals who studiously avoid discussions of difference and diversity can hardly touch the surface of oppressive and exclusionary power relationships in contemporary Iran. They are likely to offer at best partial, at worst misleading contributions to the struggle for democracy. Their constant talk of democracy and human rights are nothing more than ideological slogans serving as a façade for power and privilege>>>

I have tried and tried and tried, and for the life of me have not been able to figure out what use Facebook has, and why we should all be on it. Iranians though, seem to be on it a lot. I'll toss some Ahvazi-naft on the fire right away and suggest that first, Iranians love anything free, second they love anything trendy, so that's why I think Iranians are on Facebook>>>
