NIAC
Smearing those who attempt to fairly represent Iranian Americans
I thought it would be a typical Thursday at work last week, but as soon as I arrived to the office, an associate pulled me aside and pointed to a series of defamatory tweets against me and the National Iranian American Council (NIAC), the organization for which I intern. The tweets were directed at me by neoconservative upstarts Sohrab Ahmari and Peter Kohanloo in response to comments I tweeted (here and here) regarding an article written by Ahmari demonizing American academics who had recently traveled to Iran

Removing the waterway's name from maps
by David Rosenberg
There is a new Gulf war underway, but be careful what you call it. Google unwittingly sparked the conflict last week when it dropped the name “Persian Gulf” from the body of water separating Iran from the Arabian Peninsula. It declined to call it the “Arabian Gulf” or simply “the Gulf,” either, perhaps making its 250,000 square kilometers 97,000 square miles) the biggest landmark on Google Maps to go nameless

DEMOCRACY

CORRUPTION

FRANCE

IMMIGRATION
Pro: The law is necessary because the federal government has failed to control illegal immigration into the country. Arizona had to act to protect its security and expenses of educating and caring for “illegal immigrants.” Con: The law unfairly criminalizes law-abiding people, calls for racial profiling of minorities legally in the country and allows states to step on the federal government’s toes in the complex and plenary field of federal immigration policy

Life isn't supposed to be this way
by Niloo Soleimani
So your are a highly educated and highly paid director and you want to have a baby. Your body is screaming BABY, BABY. Every baby you see either pisses you off or makes you teary eyed, because you want your own. Finally, the time comes and you and your husband are ready; Planned parenthood, what a concept. You are settled financially, mentally and in all other ways. You've been there, done that and so now the time is right

TALKS
Why Netanyahu is afraid of diplomacy
The bar had been set very low for the talks. But progress was made, not because neither side compromised, but precisely because both did. The Iranians dropped their precondition for addressing the nuclear issue, and the US agreed to resolve the issue within the framework of the NPT, sending yet another implicit signal that Washington will accept enrichment on Iranian soil under strict inspections. Of course, Netanyahu is wrong in arguing that Iran gained time

TERRITORY
Iran's territorial integrity not on the table
The announcement on Tuesday 17th April by the United States expressing sympathy with the United Arab Emirates and in support of a negotiated settlement between Iran and the government of that Persian Gulf state over the three so called disputed islands is a dangerous step with drastic ramifications for the future relationship between the Iranian nation and the United States. It is a slap in the face and a rude awakening for a nation who receives regular messages of goodwill from the President of the United States

Islamic Republic “Journalism” at its best
This morning, an Iranian-based website entitled “Young Journalists Club,” whose slogan reads, “The Largest Persian Language News Agency In the World,” published an article with the following headline: “When the Veils of Deception are Rent Asunder: Membership in the Misguided Sect of ‘Bahaism’ as a Chief Condition of Employment with a Document Enclosed as Proof”cThe Article goes on to introduce a UK based website named “You and I” and notes that the efforts of its editors, who are directly financed by the “Royal Elements"

The case for peoples' diplomacy
by Ahmed E. Souaiaia
A recent federal case against an American charitable organization, (United States of America v. Mehrdad Yasrebi and
Child Foundation, 05-CR-413 KI (Oregon)), reveals the unfortunate state of Muslim-Americans, the potential of peoples’ diplomacy, and the legal and practical problems with economic sanctions
