I turned on the radio, and dreamed of beating up Tehran’s anti-god semi-intellectuals, smart asses who wore farangi brands, who grew up in Suisse, who knew French and Italian, laughed in English, and spoke Persian with an accent. I was appalled at the sight of Tehrani girls who wore tight dresses, short pants and small scarves just to show off their bodies and their immodest bareness. They all looked the same. The same makeup, the same cut face, the same sinful glare>>>

مرد در خود اندیشه می پرورد. نمی توان. نمی توان بدینگونه زیست. نباید چنین باشد. این نیست آنچه از افسانه ها فرا گرفته ام. باید یافت. خواهم یافت سرزمینی که مردمانش عشق را باور داشته باشند. گذشت را بدانند چیست. دروغ و ریا را نیاموخته باشند. مرد با خود اندیشه می کرد. راهواری پر از اندیشه های شیرین. پر از امید. راه به کدام سوی باید برد؟ کدامین راه به سرزمین مردمان نیک می انجامد؟ چوپانی در پی چند گوسفند چوب بر دوش گام می زد. >>>

دو روز به عید مانده بود. باران ریز بی امان می‌بارید. درها بی رمق بسته می‌شد. پارس سگ ها، آوای غوکان سبز در انبوه درختان، هجوم بی نتیجه پرندگان وحشی به امنیت خشک جنگل و دیوار محلات قدیمی همه در انبوه ریز باران از نفس افتاده بودند. در این میان ریشه‌های درختان گردو، تیرهای کپک زده برق و حتی آدم‌ها خیس بودند. این همه ارمغان خیس‌ترین بهاری بود که می‌رفت برای خیلی ها تکرار نشود. اما، بند ٥٠ نفره ما خیس نبود>>>

Nowhere else in the Middle East, nowhere else in the Muslim world, and almost nowhere else on earth do people so unreservedly admire the United States. Opinion surveys confirm this phenomenon, and I remembered it from previous visits. Nonetheless it was disorienting, in the heart of the purported axis of evil, to to be surrounded, as I was at Imam Square in Isfahan, by giddy female college students shrieking "We love America so much!">>>

Discussing an article we had read about the Iranian legendary singer, Ghamar-ol-Mokook, my friend said, “I wonder what would happen if she were alive today?” Indeed. What would happen to a great performer, a lover of music, not to mention a woman with Ghamar’s free spirit in the Islamic Iran? The thought wouldn’t leave me for the rest of the day. In a twisted way, I realized that she did live in today’s Iran, albeit a hundred years ago! The article clearly indicated to such fact. “In those days, any woman without a proper hejab would be arrested.”>>>

مسافرانی که از فلات ایندولند میگذشتند آوازه خالیبندی ایندولندی ها را به سراسر جهان می بردند. خالی بندی درایندولند تبدیل به روش موفقی در ارتباطات گردید. پادشاهان ایندولندی بر سنگ نوشته های زیادی داستان هایی از پیروزیهای خود را نوشتند که بعد ها ثابت گردید هیچکدام درست نبوده و بیشتر خالی بندی شاهانه اند تا حقیقت. برخی از این سنگ نوشته ها هم بعد از شکست های موهن بوده و پادشاهان ایندولندی برای اینکه ایز گم کنند، خود را پیروز میدان معرفی میکردند>>>

زیر سیگاری را از روی میز بغلی ام برداشتم و با کبریت سیگار گربه را روشن کردم. همان طور که دود بالای سرش درست می کرد رو به من کرد و گفت: رفیق جان باید فکری به حال سقف خانه بکنیم چند روز است که چکه می کند. اگر مارسیا بود به کمک پرنده ها حتما چکه اش را درست می کرد.>>>

نیروهای مستقل ملی با حضور و تلاش خود توانسته اند با شعارهائی که منعکس کننده خواسته های واقعی مردم بود ابتکار عمل را بدست گرفته و هدفهای جنبش را گسترده تر کنند. بعضی از این شعارها مانند "نه شرقی نه غربی جمهوری ایرانی" و "نه غزه نه لبنان جانم فدای ایران" به روشنی نشان میداد که شعارهای کلیشه ای "رای مرا پس بده" و امثال آن هرگز خواسته های اساسی مردم را منعکس نمیکند و این خواسته ها بسیار فرا تر از لغو نتایج یک انتخابات بوده و با اساس و پایه جمهوری اسلامی سر و کار دارد>>>

Those who search and often find scientific facts and nuggets in scriptures are not aware of the absurdity of their claims. For the simple reason that these books are ancient and having been written thousands of years ago can not keep up with ever changing of scientific paradigms. Despite the fact that our phenomenological understanding of nature remains the same (water is always wet, fire burns, sun is bright yellow, etc) our theoretical understanding evolves with time>>>

I am pretty certain that most of you know the Boys of the Republic are at their wits’ end with brave Iranian women fighting for equality so the boys are trying to turn the clock back to Khomeini era. If you are too young to remember or you are a senior citizen but don’t care to know, up until before Khatami’s presidency music was banned, women had to either wear full chador or black scarves and loose back manteaus (long sleeve shirt dress)>>>

When we visited the Iranian Interest Section in Washington, D.C., as part of a delegation with spokespersons from Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch to protest the arrest and illegal imprisonment of an Iranian-Canadian scholar, one of the Iranian officials -- a Khatami supporter -- thanked us for taking on the noble cause of defending political prisoners. As I left the premises, I told him, “God forbid, if you end up in jail one day, we will defend you as well.” He smiled. I smiled too. But I meant it.>>>
