A few years ago, Ayatollah Misbah Yazdi shocked the Islamic Republic’s inner circles with this performance conducted in front of flashing cameras and rolling camcorders. Publicly, the conservatives admired his selflessness but envied his prudence behind closed doors; the moderates snickered and dismissed the news of the event with curt replies. The shock, however, must not be attributed to the publicly captured humility of any ayatollah towards the Supreme Leader. On the contrary, such scenes are entirely common and dully expected. What caused the jolt was not the act itself but the stature of the man behind the act, his existing ominous authority and decisive clout, and more importantly, the absence of any apparent gain bestowed upon him>>>

This is by far the best way to improve your financial situation. You can move to a country with a maid who will cook and clean for you all for the price of renting out your apartment. If you do not have an apartment you can work as a maid or cleaner in a developing country. The fact that you speak English and know the difference between wipe and smear will stand you in good stead. Too many cleaners in third world countries smudge rather than blitz. There is of course a moral issue – what happens to the native workers if we go getting their jobs? Screw them. How many third world people have come to the West over the years and taken our jobs here? It’s payback time>>>

خداحافظ، حقوق بشر

سیاست خارجی آمریكا تحت ریاست آقای اوباما تغییر فاحشی كرده است و یكی از موارد این تغییر به كنار رفتن دموكراسی و حقوق بشر به عنوان یك ركن اساسی سیاست خارجی آمریكا است. در سه دهه گذشته،‌ یعنی از جیمی‌كارتر تا جورج بوش پسر، تأكید بر حقوق بشر همواره در متن سیاست خارجی آمریكا قرار داشته است. این تغییر اساسی بخشی از گردش تاریخی‌ سیاست خارجی آمریكا و نگاه تازه آن به جهان و به خصوص جهان سوم است. برای آقای اوباما به عنوان رییس جمهور آمریكا طبیعتا رفاه و امنیت (برای آمریكا) و صلح جهانی در درجه اول قرار دارند، و سیاست خارجی‌ آمریكا عمدتا حول این اهداف شكل می‌گیرند. مقولاتی از قبیل دموكراسی و حقوق بشر در كشورهای دیگر جهان البته مثل همیشه مورد توجه رهبران آمریكا قرار می‌گیرند، ولی بر خلاف گذشته در دولت اوباما به این امر تظاهر چندانی نخواهد شد>>>

جنایتکاران تحصیلکرده

اینگونه تصور می شد (و می شود) که تحصیلات دانشگاهی و کسب مدارک تحصیلی دانشگاهی ,آدمی را به انسانیت و مدنیت نزدیک و از حیوانیت و توحش دور می کند . زندگی اما نشان داده است چنین تصوری, هم در عرصه ی حیات فردی و خانوادگی و هم در حوزه زندگی و فعالیت اجتماعی, با واقعیت خوانایی ندارد. از سه پزشک , که بنا به ویژگی و تعهد حرفه ای شان می باید بویی از انسانیت و انسان دوستی می بردند, ویا لااقل وانمود کنند ه ی چنین حسی می نمودند, نام می برم تا شاید حدیث مفصل از این مجمل به دست داده باشم : دکتر ژزف منگله از جنایتکاران آشویتس , دکتر رادووان کارادچیک از آمرین کشتار مردم بوسنی و دکتر علی اکبر ولایتی, خادم آیت الله خمینی که مشاور ولی فقیه آیت الله خامنه ای ست و چهار دوره نیز وزیر امور خارجه حکومت اسلامی بود>>>

Monday morning I had the great honor of meeting personally with New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, on the occasion of the old and traditional Norooz celebration at his official residence at Gracie Mansion. I had met him before; however, this morning was a turning point in my judgment of him as he proved to be a practical and a no non-sense human being, not just a politician. Himself a descendant of an immigrant family, he demonstrated many understandings the communities are going through now. Sometimes news takes time to get out of Iran - particularly when it comes to internal strife in the upper political echelons. But eventually, major clashes leak out. This week the news emerged that Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the mayor of Tehran and Ahmadinejad's main rival in the Osulgarayn (Principalist) movement, resigned from his post just before the end of the previous Persian calendar year - approximately March 18 or 19. A number of days later, he was reinstated to his job after his resignation was rejected by senior officials, most likely the supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei.>>>

«قانون جرایم رایانه‌ای»

در هفته‌های اخیر موج وسیعی از سركوب وبلاگ‌نویسان به راه افتاده است. در روزهای آخر سال گذشته، اطلاعیه شدید اللحنی از سوی «مرکز بررسی جرائم سازمان یافته اینترنتی» وابسته به سپاه پاسداران منتشر شد كه از برخورد سازمان یافته و با بهره‌گیری از پیش‌رفته‌ترین فن‌آوری‌ها برای كنترل نشر اینترنتی حكایت می‌كرد. در این اطلاعیه گفته شده بود كه ده‌ها سایت و وبلاگ «ضد دینی» و «ضد اخلاقی» بسته شده و ۱۸ نفر بازداشت شده‌اند. در همان روزها خبر فوت مشكوك وبلاگ‌نویس امیررضا میر صیافی در زندان اوین منتشر شد و گزارش‌های بعدی شائبه قتل او در زندان را تقویت كرد. و اكنون «معاونت مبارزه با جرایم خاص و رایانه ای» در نیروی انتظامی، وبلاگ ‌نویسان را با ارسال یك «هشدار» بی‌سابقه مورد تهدید قرار داده است>>>

Wall Street vs Main Street

Yoram Bauman, an Economics Professor at the University of Washington, is well-known for his sense of humor. He recently compared Italian and Wall Street Mafias: "Italian Mafia are gangsters who make offers you can't refuse, whereas financial mafia are bankers who make you loans you can't understand, I'm not sure which is worse." Well, Professor Bauman, I can tell you the worse one is NOT the Italian Mafia. It is this Wall Street’s culture of entitlement that is hard to shake. Yes my friends, here is the punch line: Wall Street simply destroyed Main Street, pure and simple, and it is going to take years to rebuild it. The main root of the current crisis can be summed up in one word: greed, the first of the seven deadly sins>>>

مذاكره شروع شده است…

پیام نامنتظره نوروزی ‌باراك اوباما با پاسخ صریح و سریع علی‌ خامنه‌ای روبرو شد و فضای جدیدی در ‌روابط سیاسی جمهوری ‌اسلامی‌ با آمریكا ایجاد كرد. رییس جمهور جدید آمریكا از فرصت نوروز كه جشن ملی همه ایرانیان است و صبغه مذهبی ندارد برای ارسال پیام صلح و آشتی كمك گرفت. او با احترام از تاریخ و فرهنگ و ادبیات ایران سخن گفت و پیام خود را مشتركا به مردم ایران و رهبران جمهوری اسلامی خطاب كرد. او پاسخ خود را بسیار زودتر از آن كه انتظار می‌رفت از ولی ‌فقیه گرفت. این پاسخ البته به زبانی دیگر بود، ولی بر خلاف گذشته خشن نبود. علاوه بر این، پاسخ، همان طور كه آقای اوباما امید داشت، نه از زبان رییس جمهور تداركاتچی و بلكه از سوی كسی داده می‌شد كه قدرت اصلی‌ تصمیم‌گیرنده در ایران است. خامنه‌ای البته نمی‌توانست به یك باره پارانویای ضد خارجی/ضد آمریكایی خود را كنار بگذارد و دستی را كه به سوی او دراز شده است بفشارد>>>
