Dear Number One, As ordered, I went to see the play We Are Not Spies in Berkeley this past weekend for the purpose of discovering the true identity and purpose of its Bahai author, Mansour Taeed. Disguised as a drama critic, I gained admission to this show despite the fact that the theater was sold out and people were being turned away at the gate. This report omits details regarding the beautiful agent I seduced in the line duty to get my ticket. First, my assessment of Bahai spy technology: it sucks. At the beginning of this one-man show, Taeed said the play would self-destruct soon after the performance ends. He even played the Mission Impossible theme. The play hasn’t self-destructed!>>>

How interesting it is to see that contradictions are boiling in Iran in all matters. Bahais are the largest religious minority in Iran with an official population of 300,000 members and many many more who have become Bahais but, for their own safety, have not registered. In other words, any individual who believes Bahaullah is the Manifestation of God for today and believes in all the other past religions and believes that the teachings that Bahaullah has brought to humanity are the healing message to the world is actually a Bahai>>>

It is now thirty years that the Islamic regime has been engaged in a brutal, systematic and organized persecution of the Baha’is in Iran. This religious sadism, however, has recently been much more intensified. The Islamic Republic forces elementary school teachers to publicly humiliate the Baha’i children, and with utter inhumanity to insult their religion. This is one of the manifestations of their brand of “Islamic Justice” whose like is rarely seen even among the most despotic and racist contemporary regimes of the world. The reactionaries, led in this “holy war” against these children by the leaders of the Hojjatiyeh Association [a secret anti-Baha'i society], have opened up new chapters in the annals of courage and humanity>>>

نظام اسلامی با فرستادن قربانیان تصفیۀ زندان­ها به خاوران می­خواست حذف متافیزیکی آنان را مکمل حذف فیزیکی آنها بنماید. از دیدگاه مذهبی کافرستان نقطه ایست که آنچه نفی کنندۀ تقدس است باید یکسره و بی تمایز در آن گنجانده شود. یکسره و بی تمایز از این جهت که مذهب برای آنچه ضد تقدس است ارجی قائل نیست تا بین اجزای آن تمایزی قائل گردد و به حسابی از یکدیگر مجزایشان سازد. همۀ آنها را فقط به تناسب خود تعریف میکند و یکسره نفی می­نماید، اصلاً برایشان اعتبار مستقل قائل نمی شود تا تعریفی اثباتی از آنها عرضه بدارد. از این دیدگاه کافرستان محل نیست شدن آن چیزهایی است که از اصل نمی بایستی بوده باشد و حوالۀ عدم مطلق شده است >>>

The area being destroyed in Khavaran is a desolated plot next to the cemetery of religious minorities. Families of the victims call this place "the rose garden of Khavaran" - for a rose, in a culture where it is often safer to use poetry, represents a fallen freedom fighter. The Iranian leadership calls it the "place of the damned" or the "graveyard of the infidels". There are no gravestones, monuments or markings there because the government hasn't allowed any, but families of the victims have quietly gathered at the Khavaran cemetery every September over the last 20 years to commemorate what they call "the national catastrophe" - the largest state crime in Iran's modern history>>>

چند روز پیش، برای نخستین بار پس از دو دهه، جمهوری اسلامی ایران رسما و علنا رهبران جامعه بهائی ایران را به جاسوسی برای اسرائیل متهم کرد، تا یکبار دیگر جامعه بهائیان ایران را به شرایطی بازگرداند که تا نیمه دهه 1360 شمسی به آن دچار بودند. اکنون حجت الاسلام دری نجف آبادی، دادستان کل کشور، نیز بهائیان را به "جمع آوری اطلاعات و فعالیت های نفوذی و تخریب پایگاه های اعتقادی مردم" متهم کرده و خواهان مقابله وزارت اطلاعات با تشکیلات بهائی در کلیه سطوح شده است. ایراد اینگونه اتهامات سیاسی برعلیه بهائیان تکرار مکرر ادعاهایی است که اکنون برای نزدیک به هفتاد سال درباره بهائیان مطرح شده است.>>>

In his recent opinion piece on the recently-announced candidacy of Mohammad Khatami for the upcoming presidential elections in Iran, Trita Parsi proscribes the steps he believes the purportedly reformist cleric Mohammad Khatami should take in order to fulfill the broken promises of his previous stint as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. What most stands out from Mr. Parsi's article however, is his characterization of the elections themselves: "The Iranian presidential elections will not be democratic by Western standards," he writes, "but they won't lack excitement or fierce competitiveness.">>>

گزارش اعدام‌ها در ایران خسته كننده شده است. كمتر روز و هفته‌ای است كه اسیری در این یا آن گوشه كشور دست بسته كشته نشود. اگر در گذشته نزدیك، این اسیركشی‌ها تك تك در این جا و آن‌جا صورت می‌گرفت، اكنون دسته دسته سر به نیست می‌شوند. بنا به گزارش‌ها(۱) در طول كمتر از دو هفته گذشته ۴۸ نفر در ۸ شهر ایران اعدام شده‌اند. در تابستان گذشته نیز تنها در یك روز ۲۹ نفر در زندان اوین گله‌وار به دار آویخته شدند. صحبت یكی دو نفر نیست. صحبت ده‌ها نفر است. صحبت افرادی غالبا بی نام و نشان است. صحبت كسانی است كه یا نام و نشانی از آنان داده نمی‌شود و یا فقط با حروف اختصاری یا اسم كوچك از آنان یاد می‌شود. گویی این قربانیان انسان نیستند>>>

As Iranian human beings, we are ashamed for what has been perpetrated upon the Baha’is in the last century and a half in Iran. We firmly believe that every Iranian, “without distinction of any kind, such as, race, color, sex, language, religion, politics or other opinions,” and also without regard to ethnic background, “social origin, property, birth or other status,” is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. However, from the very inception of the Baha’i Faith, the followers of this religion in Iran have been deprived of many provisions of human rights solely on account of their religious convictions>>>

I have a dream that IRI officials apologize to the Iranian people and surrender themselves to justice for the crimes against humanity they have been committing in Iran for the last 30 years. Apologizing for destroying Iran’s infrastructure, ruining its economy, isolating it, oppressing its people, imprisoning and murdering them, exiling them, taking their freedoms away, taking them hostage in order to promote their own brand of Islam, for making the entire world an enemy of our country, for destroying Iran’s image and reputation, for abolishing the values it once stood for, for taking Iran back to the 7th century, for applying barbaric laws and for leading the world in stupidity and savagery>>>

Every Martin Luther King Day over the last few years, plus as many days as possible during February (Black History Month,) I have been wearing the shirt above and this year was no exception. Mine is actually black, in some ways more fitting, but I wish I had seen the version above in wine-red first. I bought it from the wonderful people at UrbanProfile.com, who also offer a wide range of other African-American themed t-shirts. This particular shirt gets some of the strangest looks, not to mention some interesting reactions. This morning while lying down on my chiropractor’s adjustment bed, I noticed him reading the back out loud. He later insisted on reading the front before discussing my ever ongoing need for additional treatment.>>>

در روزهای گذشته، من هم از ديدار شادمانی مردمانی که همه جا با غرور حضور داشتند و از برگزيده ی خود که در مراسم مختلف شرکت می کرد تا تاريخی ديگر را شروع کند، از ديدن همسر او که همه جا شانه به شانه و دست در دست او بود، و از ديدن زنان ديگری که هر کدام نقشی در گذشته و آينده اين سرزمين داشتند شادمان بودم. اما غمی بزرگ هم بهمراه اين شادی دلم را می فشرد؛ همان غمی که هر آمده از جامعه ای ديکتاتور زده در اين لحظات حس می کند. در آن لحظات نمی توانستم غمگين نباشم وقتی می ديدم که مردم سرزمين من و به خصوص زن ها از ساده ترين و طبيعی ترين حقوق خويش بی نصيب هستند>>>
