I met a few families who had come to the conference together, finding the shared interests and focus of the conference a binding force between the two generations. I could see the pride and joy in the parents' eyes. I shared that pride.
Amnesty International had a large and active presence at the conference. Comedian Tissa Hami joined their volunteers, too, working double shifts between AIAW table and this one!

Meet the young woman who made this happen! Nakkisa Akhavan, Director, International Conference on the Iranian Diaspora. Nakkisa is a UC Berkeley graduate who plans to go on to law school in fall 2009. What did I tell you? Brains and Beauty!
