I really didn't expect it to be so beautiful, so colorful. But also empty! I mean TOTALLY empty. The man at the hotel lobby said Mexicans vacation here on the weekends and it's slow during the week. Hmm...

I have to think hard to remember if I've seen a dirty bathroom anywhere in Mexico. This one at the airport was really neat. Look at the sink: The water does not go down a normal drain at the center, but rather rolls down a long horizontal opening. Smart design.

Oh and the Swine Flu scare is almost over. The English recording on the airport speakers said wearing masks is now "optional".

Is this the cleanest country in the world? Everywhere you go (excluding the outer layers of populated areas), whether a village or a big city, you almost never see any garbage laying around.

Starbucks coffee. Small cup of latte: 32 pesos, or about $2.50. Expensive for Mexicans.

They were very helpful at the information desk, especially for someone like me who doesn't speak Spanish. I bought a small Spanish-English dictionary for travelers when I was in the U.S. But I just noticed it's for those traveling in Spain, not Mexico. Not a big difference, but I should have spent more than 2 seconds at the language section of Barnes & Noble and looked more closely.

It's spacious and very easy to figure out where you are and where you want to go. When you get off the plane, the baggage area is only about a 100 meters away and you see the luggage being loaded behind a glass window. You are out in minutes.

For years I've wanted to go to a place with natural hot springs. Did a search for spots in Mexico and picked Tequisquiapan, 150 kms north of Mexico City. Why? It was a good deal. I knew nothing about the town. I arrived at Mexico City airport (this and next few pictures), and I have to say this is the best designed airport I've ever seen.
