This is Confucius temple in Beijing built 700 years ago. It is the 2nd largest in China. The Chinese government spent $60 million restoring the temple. It was re-opened in 2008 right before the Beijing Olympic Games.
Stone tablets with Confucius' 13 classics (Book of Song, The Analects of Confucius, and the Annals….) and names of the scholars who passed the imperial examinations.
Confucius was one of the greatest philosophers in China. Confucius was vilified during Cultural Revolution and rehabilitated after Mao’s death. Chinese government issued a commemorative stamp in his honor.

One time, when I visited the donkey restaurant, the TV was showing Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. A good-looking Iranian weightlifter, Mohsen, was ready to lift the weight. Mohsen lifted the weight above his head, but he did not hold it long enough to validate his lift!
This is the first donkey meat sandwich I tasted. It was "love at first bite". Donkey meat tastes so much leaner and tender than beef! I went back to the same restaurant 3 more times for more donkey meat sandwiches and donkey meat noodle. When I was working on this photo essay, I found out that Hejian donkey meat sandwich (Lurou Huoshao) was feature on Time magazine. They call it Ass sandwich! LOL!
This is a small donkey meat restaurant with only 4 tables... the kitchen is behind the donkey curtain.
One day I had craving for pizza. I ordered a pizza from Beijing Pizza hut. The delivery man arrived in 45 minutes on bike……the pizza was pretty cold already.
Beijing’s Pizza hut box. Beijing’s Pizza Hut sells pizzas and everything else like rice, noodle, chicken wings, smoothies and shaved ice. Apparently Pizza hut can’t survive in Beijing by selling pizzas alone.
About 2 miles from the Persian Grill on the same street, there is a sex toy shop. Wow! This is a very liberal area in Beijing!
