I carried my leftover food and 2 naans from the restaurant with me……2 beggars outside the mosque wanted my food; they were very aggressive and they grabbed my food. They must be very hungry. I gave my 2 naans away. Shortly after that, a Uyghur naan vendor showed up. I bought 2 naans from him and he let me take his picture……the guy was super friendly. He sells his naans at 30 cents each. Not long after I took this photo, a police officer came and asked the Uyghur vender to leave.

When I took a taxi home and I passed by the most famous halal restaurant in Beijing Dong Lai Shun. Dong Lai Shun is a big franchise with over 100 restaurants in China and Hong Kong. It has been around since 1903. This restaurant has Persian windows and green mosque style domes. This video is Dong Lai Shun in Shanglai, but mutton hotpot (steamboat) is a famous Beijing dish.

I took a picture of the 2 naans before I ate them. I really don’t know when I can have Uyghur naans again. BTW, the naans tasted great!

Friday prayer was just over and people were leaving the mosque. Those people did not even look at the police.

I walked to the Cow Street Mosque and saw 10 police officers outside the mosque. The atmosphere was making me uncomfortable. I recall the taxi driver told me that every time Muslims have Friday prayer, police shows up! I asked one police officer if I can go closer to the mosque, he said that it is OK. I walked to the front of the mosque and took this picture. This is my 1st trip to a mosque in my entire life.

This dessert was made up of dates and other yummy ingredients. I became full after eating one piece. I packed the dessert and also ordered 2 Uyghur naans to take with me. Uyghurs make naans similar to way Persians bake their bread. The waitress told me that only Muslims can go inside the Cow Street Mosque. Since I am not a Muslim, I can’t go inside.

The beauty of this Chinese style mosque blew me away. Too bad that I can’t go inside. Niejie (Cow Street) Mosque is the oldest mosque in Beijing. It was first built in 996 AD during the Liao dynasty. The mosque has Chinese exterior and Arabic calligraphy interior. There are 10,000 Muslims living in the Cow street area.

This is a super luxurious Pangu 7 Star Hotel. There are less than ten 7 Star hotels in the whole world! Pangu is very close to Olympic facilities of Water Cube and Bird’s Nest Stadium. The hotel has Chinese motif.
